7.2 MSQ opinions (spoiler obviously)

Sphene has been a VERY good breath of fresh air although I wish the other scions would get some more screentime with her, given who she is it's likely some of them will want to speak with her a bit more.

Alphinaud in particular comes to mind for Sphene's as her magics of healing (and likely a bit of summoning as per her FF9 counterpart) match his skillset a lot so in reality he should be helping more than Alisaie or Y'shtola, and why not let Alphy's skirt chaser days come back out, it could give Krile something to do than be exposition by letting her tease him or even more.

The Arcadion storyline is actually getting really engaging now, When we saw the true depths of hector it made the entire scenario feel.......sad, and in need of resultion to help the two champions reunite.

It also looks like we have them setting up the plot thread for the next arc, to the next reflections and saving them from a predatory antagonist maybe?

While I do agree it was a step in the right direction it was a mandatory one.
Another bad MSQ patch would've probably plummeted Sub Numbers with the actual features of 7.2 that were advertised only arriving later.

Tho the same issues apart from childish and cringe writing persist.
As we get to do... nothing apart from talk to A, B, C one again.
I was very disappointed the attack on Solution 9 was nothing but Cutscenes. It was, just as the attack on the Main City of DT such an opportunity to have a solo duty that is not a solo Trial.
Yet nothing again.

We need more solo duties during MSQ, not less.

I just finished 7.2 MSQ. I like the real Sphene. She is more relatable, and the Endless Sphene we killed before was too pretentious and annoying. I don’t like or dislike Wut Lamar, but I really wanted Endless Sphene to die and never come back. After finishing the last couple of quests in 7.2, I realized my main issue with Dawntrail is with Alexandrians, how they use souls and are controlled by the regulator. This may be all due to the mad scientist Calyx’s evil plan, but I just don’t feel interested in their story. Is this the FF14’s version of The Matrix?

I really enjoyed the MSQ of 7.2, real Sphene was a much needed breath of fresh air and I hope her character develops more. It's also refreshing to see there is an overall positive feedback here, like Yoshi P listened and I hope the MSQ story keeps going in this direction. Seeing everyone giving mostly positive feedback and also discussing what may happen next is wonderful and I hope it continues. It was really nice to see the WoL being the central focus once more, it's why we play the game and not babysit Wuk Lamat.


While the most logical conclusion is real Sphene becoming the queen of Alexandria again, I hope that isn't the case. Since real Sphene feels out of place four centuries later, I hope she decides to join the Scions, she would make a great Scion and leave Gulool Ja as the king of Alexandria and Wuk Lamat is then left to raise him and she is out of the picture that way. Another logical conclusion is Calyx being dealt with in 7.3 but I kinda hope he becomes a much larger villain with his knowledge of the Source and it's reflections. The attempted assassination of WoL was a nice surprise and was refreshing to see the villain taking the WoL seriously and hope it develops into a story that rivals HW and ShB if Calyx survives beyond 7.3 and becomes a major threat in 8.0.


I do share the same sentiments with many others that there should have been more solo duties and I hope 7.3 does that. I haven't done the raids yet but I will soon since I'm also focused on crafting while the sales are great on the MB before the new savage tier arrives. I hope SE took our feedback of 7.0 and 7.1 to heart and continue to improve going forward and realize they need their senior devs tending their biggest money maker to give the players the reason we fell in love and why we play this game for, an excellent story and many things to do.

I really enjoyed new real Sphene, and I hope we can keep her. I wanna grab her, Maya and Gaius, and start a new team of Scions. I appreciate Shale, and Gulool Ja is a good kid.

Everyone else seems lost. From Shtola to Wuk Lamat, G'raha and Alphinaud, I have no idea why they're even around.

Old-new Sphene does provide a relatable character who has a bit of backbone. It's a great relief not to have her simpering and bleating like the other two versions.

I'm still finding it all heavy going though. To me, the main element that is absent is mystery. We know what the genius brat wants. We know it'll be our job to stop it. We know we will succeed. I'm just not interested in this.

It's very shallow, poor plot development, further hampered by S9 residents being unrelatable/unlikeable.

Despite Wuk Lamat being constantly present, she was not suffocating so they did a good job improving how oppressive she felt.

I do like all versions of Sphene and the trial was a lot of fun.

I think this was an improvement over 7.0 and 7.1.

Do we know what the production timeline for patch content is like? Something that struck me is how ambiguously Sphene is written; there are plenty of reasons for her both to stay and pick up Endless Sphene's mantle, and to leave so she can protect her people indirectly with the Scions. It has me wondering if SE wanted to get fan feedback before deciding whether she joins the cast or not.

Seriously what kind of effwit has the one item the enemy wants, with which they can do terrible things, and marches into their lair with it? At least Scooby Doo was funny.

Like remember when we recovered Louisoix's stick? Was it entrusted to the WoL? Hell no!

They gave it to the lil fella! Which admittedly didn't work our great for him, but at least the plan had some common sense behind it.

We're always getting into ridiculous scrapes. When I'm not dodging assassination attempts, I spend most of my time playing cards at the casino. Does that sound responsible!?

You'd be better off giving it to Lyse, then nobody would find it.

I don't think it makes a lot of difference, personally, as there is no good reason for Calyx to confront the Warrior of Light for the key (or possibly the Azem crystal) anyway - he's already holding all the cards. All he really needs to do is take hostages from Solution 9's population and just start killing people until the WoL concedes that there is no other choice but to hand the key over - which they absolutely would.

I agree, but at the same time, i really do fear, that this Cylax, is just gonna ruin it all, him and Simulant Sphene, is just cartoon villians, with a plan that is, offcourse Sphene's Endless failed, so we are gonna do the same, but this time it is gonna work, because he can apparently can fix the problem she encountered, even through he has not been able to fix himself, after 400 years, which also should have killed him.

I really loved this new Flesh and blood Sphene, she is just what we need, and really lit my interest for the game again, and i really wanna find out, what is gonna happen, but then as soon as we meet Cylax, i can just kinda see we are going towards, Sphene taking on her old memories, and that is gonna make her a villian again, or that makes her wanna become the queen again, and both just seem like the lazy way to go, and it is just gonna ruin this entire expansion, i really hope i am wrong, and that we are done with Cylax in 7.3, and we go towards helping Sphene, getting back on her feet, and finding a life goal, would love for her to join Scions, maybe she ends up as the new class that will come for next expansion.

I totally understand those concerns and fears. So far as I'm at, pretty much my standard for any hope for the future of this game is pretty rock bottom. At this point if they pulled out an Allagan story line, but got rid of Wuk Lamat I'd be happy. I think most white knights really refuse to understand is the majority of us giving criticism want the game to succeed. We'll accept a lot of abuse, and have for years (just look at the job designs and the unifinished Viera / Hroth races that is so completely unacceptable). However, we WANT to play this game and enjoy it. Wuk and the miserable writing around Dawntrail as a whole wasn't just - oh it's mid or not the best, it actively tore apart so much of what FFXIV fought 10yrs to achieve. I don't understand how it did it in literally 1 expansion, but it just goes to show bad that is.

So, if they sacrifice this lovely character that is real life Sphene on the altar of mediocrity, I would be disappointed sure, but so long as they continue to cut out the rot they infected this game with, I would accept it with hope they'll just build something new and better.
