"Jog" is the worst addition to the game - rant

So, this will be a rant about the new passive effect called "Jog" introduced in 7.2.

Jog genuinely makes me want to stop playing. I know very well that that sounds strange and stupid, fully aware, but i just HATE the sped up running-animation, and to have that "forced" upon me actively makes the game worse. When playing a physical ranged damage dealer I already hated having to press Peloton after every pack in a dungeon, and now having to to that on every single job in the game..? No thanks.

Now i have to choose between always having my character run like a cartoon character, or be punished for not doing that... I remember when they added special animations for Sprinting with your weapon equipped and I was SO hyped about it. Now, I want to remove Sprint from my bars entirely - though I can already hear people in dungeons yelling at me for not using Jog. Ugh...

Ninja is my favourite job in the game, but I always hated how their slightly increased movement speed made my character run. But I still loved the job so I ignored it. Now ALL jobs have an EVEN WORSE sped up animation..! Why..!?

Now, I understand that most people probably love the introduction of Jog, but personally I've never had an issue with the normal running speed for the past 11 years of playing, and I've no idea why they felt the need to change that. We've got Sprint, Teleport, Aetherytes, increased Sprint duration in cities, Peloton, and this patch even gave us mounting up while running. WHY on earth do we need Jog too?

Please, at least give me an option to toggle it off permanently...

Again, I know it's a stupid thing to be mad about, but I genuinely feel like it makes my gameplay experience worse, as weird as that may sound.

    Okay, rant over...

What do you think? Do you love Jog, do you HATE it like I do? Or do you not care at all?

    Thanks for reading

I'm not a fan either. If I wanted to jog I would use peloton. It's irritating to have to do it, but you can click on the jog icon to get rid of the status and return to the normal walking state.

edit: getting a lot more used to it

What is that supposed to mean? Jog is automatically applied to your character when Sprint drops off. Are you seriously trying to tell people "bro, just don't click sprint bro"?

To be honest, a lot of people do not Sprint in dungeons when I tank them. It's just the tank that needs to do it. Everyone else will catch up by the time you've "settled" with the mobs, plus most jobs have other methods to catch up such as gap closers, Elusive Jump, Shukuchi, Smudge, Aetherial Manipulation, Ifrit Dash, etc.

No I dont hate it. It took them years to change their minds on this.

However, I still question why we cannot toggle sprint like in PVP, but that will never get answered.
Dev's have a difficult perspective on random things.

I mean, if they hated the running animation so much as to make a whole forums post about it, then it’s surprising they were using sprint in the first place

I sort of get where OP is coming from. I personally couldn’t stand the running animation for female midlander (whether or not Peloton was up) when I started playing the game, and that was why I’d used the free fantasia from ARR to change to Highlander for a couple years.

I don’t mind Jog or Peloton speeding up the running animation, but Jog is a weird idea because it’s functionally the same as a permanent increase to run speed that needs to be reactivated each time you’re out of combat, and the it speeds up the run animation to something it’s not supposed to be at. Like when you use Haste in FF10 and then everyone’s idle animations start to look funny.

It would be better if Sprint was a toggle in cities, or Jog itself was a separate ability that could be toggled, or if in our character configuration we could decide whether or not Sprint will activate Jog.

Maybe you could make a macro that uses sprint, then waits for 21 seconds, and then turns off Jog. But then you lose the benefit of 7.2 also making Sprint be queueable unless you also keep the actual Sprint button on one of your hotbar as well for using in combat.

If you're worried about getting yelled at for not having sprint on your hotbar, why would you not worried about being able to toggle off the jog status
"Sorry guys I can't keep up with this pull because I willingly turned off the passive speed boost"

not that it's that difficult to keep up in the first place without it
many people in dungeons don't seem to use it

if this is just an overworld thing then yeah, you can probably turn the status off by right clicking the icon and could make a macro for it but that'd probably come with its own issues

I don't mind the idea of jog, being able to move around faster will be nice
but I don't know why they didn't just give us the sprint from pvp that is a toggle that goes away once in combat
