It's bad enough you can't use the original ones while sitting on the ground, not even being able to use the looping ones in a chair is really really irritating. But in the water is fine? lol. I hope they do overhaul the emote system and fix it.

...It's worth noting:
Looping emotes are only found in the 'special' tab.
Other than 'changepose' and 'visor' which affect your idle pose or a piece of gear respectively, none of the emotes in the Special tab are able to be used while sitting.
It's possible that this is more complicated than it seems as this could imply it has to do with the way the emote system is hard-coded.
You might be on to something. I do hope that is the reason, which means the design intention was for special emotes to also be used seated, the system just doesn't play ball. For what it's worth, I like this explanation more than them not doing it on purpose or just forgetting (because that would imply lack of care or lack of thought, both which are not good for the continued longevity of FF14).
I do hope they will overhaul the emote system sooner rather than later since it is an integral part of the MMO and FF14 experience.
I am glad to see this topic resonates with so many people, it actually helped me to get over my annoyance a bit (although I am still majorly annoyed :P).
You didn't know? Lots of people read books for 5 seconds and shake beverages forever :^)
I hardly ever come to the official forums to post, and I immediately came here looking for a thread about this because it seems like such a ridiculous oversight. Everyone wanted a persistent /read emote to be able to read idle while sitting, same for tomescroll. IS there a bug report/request thread for this yet? I feel like the sooner it is brought up the better before it fades into obscurity like many other small QoL requests.
