I'm not focused on potency buffs, but I also want to contribute something when playing MCH. It shouldn't be considered selfish when picking a job, that contributes less DMG than a melee - and also provides no buffs for the raidgroup.
The raid mentality I've known for years wants as much DPS as possible. The more DPS or buffs you provide, the higher your DMG output will be. In conclusion that means, less mechanics to do = less healing needed = less stress overall.
I'll be raiding this tier again via PF and I'll make my own opinion wether I'll be excluded or asked to swap to BRD or DNC.

I also don't see any reason why both issues cannot coexist and be questioned. Job rotations are important as well as job/role identity.

Back when City of Heroes was still Live, Cryptic released a revamp of defensive abilities known as the "Global Defense Nerf" among players. This was done as part of a re-balancing known as Enhancement Diversification in preparation for a new system. And there was a great outcry over how the changes were going to ruin the game via gutting defenses and damage across the board, and make everything unplayable. I'll admit, I was part of that mass outcry. then when the re-balance actually came out, it turned out things were actually no where near as dire as we all assumed. Damage output for any given attack was lower, sure. But overall damage output was better because we could diversify where we were putting enhancement slots. Defensive abilities were reduced in effectiveness, but that merely meant we no longer had soft/hard capped defense and/or resistance. In sort, the net result was the game was exactly as playable as before. It was just more balanced. And some character types actually gained damage capability, due to being able to now slot in damage enhancements instead of only having crowd control boosting enhancements in those abilities.

This experience taught me that game balance is a lot more complicated then I, or any other player are likely to realize. And that crying DOOM before you experience a change for yourself is stupid.

I do also know that MCH was considered to be extremely unpopular and often in dire straits in periods stormblood and HW so take that as you will. Doesn’t seem like it was well liked back then
It had issues, much like SMN had issues, BLM had issues, etc. Except now we swapped fixable issues with identity/core issues that are a lot harder to address.
As soon as I saw the ShB media tour I screamed internally when I saw that it was all flash no substance and people were all yelling excitedly that the job had, I quote, a freakin' robot. Especially since back then we were naive enough to be trusting and clamored for ages for SE to "fix the job" because it truly had genuine issues. Except the parts they chose to fix and get rid of were the parts nobody asked to be changed (ammo and rng), and what they didn't change was what everybody hated (clipping, rapid fire and tight overheat windows).
But that's the thing right? We try to make jobs more popular by gutting them. What's left for players actually enjoying some manner of complexity, or intricacies, since they're bound to be left into a minority?

Jobs being "locked out" wasn't a thing even in Heavensward. This playerbase loves to overstate the importance of meta, as if XIV is designed any worse for character meta than the thousands of multiplayer games out there.

If they're going to make all the classes mindless and samey the least they can do is balance them right.

Maybe it's just me but I very much prefer the look and feel of using a job rather than being at the top of the enmity list. If I'm having fun blowing up monsters as BLM and we still win, it doesn't matter.
