Revelations from Patch 7.2: Seekers of Eternity

Getting the thread started early for once, and [deleted talk about patch notes implying there was a quest blockage because I've been through and it seems fine].

    ---

Besides that, we are expecting to get the following content in 7.2:

    7.20
    MSQ: Seekers of Eternity
    Arcadion: Cruiserweight Division
    new Cornservant sidequest

    7.21
Cosmic Exploration: The Moon + Cosmic Tool enhancement

    7.25
Shades' Triangle: Occult Crescent + Phantom Weapons (relic weapons)
    Mamool Ja society quests
    Hildibrand

7.2 Arcadion Story (All Raids Spoilers)

I am so bitter about Brute Bomber's death. It has to be one of the more... heartbreaking deaths in the game for me. Dude gets manipulated by the President, and then the only person, his childhood best friend, who could most likely talk some sense into him, just lets his death happen and doesn't intervene because he is a coward who has " accepted " his own death as well. Oh, and do we learn the cure to the soul degradation sickness right after Hector dies? Of COURSE we do!!! Just to rub salt on the wound.

And then, this entire scenario's awfulness is just emboldened by what seems to be a lovers spat between Retsarra and Eutrope, as there seems to be some ridiculous miscommunication and misunderstandings going on that could've been solved by.. talking things out, or so it seemed to me. And in the meantime, of course Eutrope was never a bad person, not really, she was just trying to save her boyfriend!!! All the edge she might've had has been taken away just for relationship drama that leads to Hector's death, essentially.

The entire romantic relationship now takes precedent over the friendship Retsarra and Hector had, as Eutrope and Neyuni are kidnapped by the President. As Retsarra said, he won't let the President take away anymore people he cares about. That's such a lovely sentiment, but rescuing Eutrope won't take away that you knowingly sent Hector to his death, now does it? We obviously have to see how the finale of the raid pans out and how Hector's death is going to be handled by GEEZ, am I bitter. I know FFXIV gets clowned on for not being brave enough to kill people for good, but this is one death that feels so bad to me, just complete clownery.

Justice for Hector, idk. Maybe they'll rename Arcadion " Hectorion " in the finale, lmao.

It always does feel sometimes side stories could have been prevented from escalating to the point people die by simply having characters talk it out to clear any misunderstanding since FF14 began. Of course some people do not like it when things can be resolved with simply just talking because of the hate for things that remind them of "Talk no jutsu" but sometimes this path is the obvious reasonable path that should have been taken but stubbornness of characters and some players wanting a reason for escalating events for excitement in the story seem to prevent this from happening.

    7.2 Arcadion spoilers

I just think that whenever misunderstandings, coincidences and miscommunication stems from romantic relationship drama and tension, it becomes very frustrating to me when others fall victim of that tomfoolery and clownery. And it becomes especially harsh when the fact that an outsider got killed partly due to their incompetence actually brings the two back together... well I can't vibe with that. But who knows what's going to happen in the finale, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that the death leads to something important and not just corny and predictable heroism that now invalidates all the criticism of past tomfoolery. Nu-uh, I'm not having that this time around.

    The new MSQ antagonist...

I kind of understand what they are going with Calyx currently as the new antagonist despite his role is probably going to be very shot unless they plan to have him as a antagonist part 7.3 era contents.

He is basically the opposite of not just Wuk Lamat, Sphene, and WoL but every single person we have known since FF14. A character dedicated to purely logic and reason with his actions with no room for any form of emotional attachment in anyway with his actions.

For him the Endless is the most "logical" choice for evolution since all the flaws of mortality are erased and he see the countless sacrifice of other beings from other worlds as necessary to maintain this form of Godhood since no one will care about people they have no attachments with since people care less about people they do not know and care more about people they do know.

However, I still feel there should have been some kind of build up for him in 7.0 through small hints and mentions. Not to mention they obviously are building up to the concept that he may have faked Sphene's death and planned everything from the beginning to reach this point in 7.2 to 7.3 since he always planned for Endless Sphene to go crazy and fail in her plans to save everyone as Endless then have these Neo regulators introduced after.

I was hoping they'd give us a little more to chew on in general. It feels like not a whole lot got revealed at all in 7.2. We still don't know anything about the key and it's getting frustrating how long we've been waiting to learn more about it.

Edit: ok reading this thread is getting me excited and I hope people aren't just overanalyzing what will be a straightforward "new villain monologues then summons a scary boss in 7.3, is defeated, we move on" like Golbez was

    Msq thoughts

So was Calyx just not paying attention from wherever his endless body has been hiding to not have an idea of how strong the WoL is? Cause otherwise he'd of known that lighting strike wouldn't have killed the WoL. Yet they seemed to have also anticipated the use of the Azem stone and know about reflections and the source. I am glad that we got back to Milos and his mother. That yes porxies can cure the levin sickness, but that as some of us expected if they don't want a relapse they would have to move away from the dome. I do worry about them though cause I feel that they won't be able to get their happy ending.

It's not often that I wonder why the supposed smart people can't figure things out in XIV's story or others but there definitely were times in the msq where I'm going Krile you really can't figure out why Calyx wants to make people panic so they choose to register their neo regulators? I do wonder about why or how that one body in Heritage Found just turned to dust. The dungeon and trial were fun and made you not want to mess up so glad they've kept that up.

    Raid

Who would have thought Brute Bomber was secretly a softie and owned cats? I am glad that at least one person pushed back at the idea to stop the fights. As with the dungeon and trial these fights had some teeth. M7 especially. I hope M7 has as many arena changes in savage as it does in normal. Still a bit confused about the petrification attack as my co healer and I would be looking away, far away from the boss and some times not even doing anything and end up being hit by it which would cause us to die from follow up attacks. I wonder about what this drop of life it's called is as I would say physonekrosis sounds akin to what happened to us via absorbing all those light wardens. Did anyone else notice the lack of regulators on people in some scenes even when those people should have been wearing them? One example is after Eutrope and Yaana fight they both don't have their on.

I also am just getting sick of not telling some npcs about our Endsinger fight, our near death dual with Zenos and considering the wants of the msq villain our meeting of simulations of the Ea, Omnicrons and the Nibirun as examples of why it won't work.

Is the bar really that low now or was this patch actually kinda good? I still have bruises from when they threw Koana's development under the bus last patch, but I guess the payoff was getting to stick to one location for a change.

I like the new-old-Sphene. The "classic" FF princesses have all historically been pretty awesome, so actually giving us one after the fakeout of 7.0 is better late than never, I guess. Endless Sphene was a good standalone villain, but got undermined by Simulant Sphene showing up one patch later. I kinda wish the current writing team had the confidence to bring the real one in earlier. As an apology, I want to be able to wear her shoes.

Calyx is interesting, but should have been introduced last patch at the latest. I get the feeling both he and real!Sphene were delayed on account of needing new models. He's definitely got some kind of ties to either the Ascians or some yet-unrevealed rogue splinter faction of the Milalla, though we don't have enough info yet to figure out what kind of larger endgame his current plan will work into.

I don't entirely like the way that real!Sphene keeps looking at the crown, though. Getting strong Yotsuyu vibes. I think it would be really, really bad if she put it on, and that that's probably what's going to happen.

I'm glad we got clarification that Brute Bomber is specifically playing the heel, as it was the one sticking point for me in the last tier. Much less thrilled that the revelation came at the cost of his life, but even as infrequent as "real" deaths are the bar is still low enough that I don't think it was worst way he could have gone out. Other than that, this series is actually doing a great job of illustrating why this game does better when it keeps the body count low. We got to check in with everyone from last tier (and we're sure to see them again by the finale), and Honey B. Lovely is now cleared to show up pretty much anywhere fanservice is called for.

I like the overall Hajime no Ippo direction they're going in with fighters retiring from injuries to take care of the next generation, but I'm hoping the "cure" is something a little less miraculous than it sounds at the moment. Not that I want the people the story is making me care about to all die horribly, I just don't want the cure to be so easy that it trivializes the issue entirely.

I have very little else to say about this one except all the fights rocked. I am glad the art team has finally caught on that male Miqo'te can double as wolf boys in a pinch. Please please please release a model kit for Howling Blade. Please.

This one is a bit of a second coil throwback:
you need to get behind the flowers. At least you have to kill the adds this time instead of keeping them alive.

I'm not quite sure about that

As Blighted Bloom was a stop moving and not a look away or Line of sight. You also still had to kill the slugs unless you were doing the mega slug strat. Or are yout alking about the bees? As you still wanted to kill those unless you could power through them. Unlike Sohm Al's 1st boss. Where even on launch you could ignore them.

    Raid strats
I should have clarified that I meant Melusine, actually. Back in the day, you had to petrify the cyclops and then get behind it. The implementation is closer to Rathalos, though.
I worked this out with my sister this morning when she was helping me clear, and it definitely works.
