7.2: It's Frontline, Jim, but not as we know it.

    Good gravy.

Just reading through the extensive changes, Frontline is going to be a very different beast.

There are some definite positives here. Tanks/melee look like the big winners with the reduction between action execution and effect activation. But if it works, I think everyone will be pleased with that since it should feel much crisper.

Some of the role actions are... surprising. I can't quite imagine what a 30-yalm knockback (Full Swing) is going to look like. Isn't that about twice the diameter of Onsal mid?

Healers have more choice as to whether they're going to heal (either spot or shield), or emphasize their role as green dps.

Overall I think this will take AST out of S+ tier, which will give me the nudge I need to try some other jobs.

And irrespective of the specific changes, everyone basically gets one extra button which can only be good. Particularly if it produces AFK puree of the non-combatants.

The 30 yalm knockback is surprising. It might be a typo in the release notes/tooltip.

Dance of the Dawn's animation has been changed, which is a positive implementation of feedback.

Otherwise I'm just excited to try things out and see how it goes. Can't really form an opinion until I see how it works when players bump heads.

Edit: hopefully the healer role actions don't make scholar completely redundant. If they have a recast timer of 60 seconds it should be fine.

Guessing, but I think the combination of Diabrosis and 4 BH points for assists might power up SCH a lot as a dps.

It's a lot to absorb and consider right off the bat; trying to run scenarios in my head that each role action is an answer to, and also now there's a whole new layer of guessing which role action every player is packing. I assumed there would be "meta" role actions (there may still be, to a small degree), but a lot of them really have incredible situational uses. For example, while melee DPS' Swift sounds like a great "extra" Purify/Resilience option, Smite also looks like a great instant 10y snowballing tool (it resets as soon as you get an assist). It also seems like some of these might also be potential answers to the DRK draw-in meta. My first knee-jerk reaction to seeing Comet was that it was tailored especially for DRK draw-ins, but then I considered that it can just as well be used against them to throw them off/outright punish them if you aim the AoE on or just behind them to nail the DNCs, ASTs, etc. And then I see healer's Diabrosis... I mean in general it just seems like a lot to punish grouping up.

Speaking of punishing, they seem to have gone out of their way to heavily dissuade/ nerf Guard in general. Every phys ranged DPS can potentially have their own budget MCH Drill (ew, could you imagine MCH Analysis Drill+ Eagle Eye?) while tanks can outright cancel it... With a 30y knock-back... Like, don't get me wrong, that sounds hilarious and I'm sure will be useful in many situations... But basically punting someone 30y to get them out of Guard might actually help them create distance from your own teammates waiting for their bubble to pop...

They seem to really want to emphasize people dying more frequently. Between the Battle High change making Assists more valuable and new offensive role action options, not having some kind of level of battle high regularly will be even more embarrassing.

I wonder how quickly the animation effects relative to the damage snapshots are being improved? I see PCT's Holy and Comet on that list and they have the longest wind-up coinciding with their damage.

And SGE being able to Icarus alliance members is a game-changer to their survivability. You get to pick out any alliance member in the peripherals of a fight and now they're even more slippery than all the other jobs with only 15y dashes. Gonna be Spider-manning around.

Can't wait to see the chaos.

I'd confidently bet on those being used the most:

Tank: Rampage, and more situationally Full Swing
    Melee: Smite
Ranged : Bravery, maybe Eagle Shot too
Caster: Comet / Phantom Dart, depending on the map
    Healer: Diabrosis

I will be spam queuing Diabrosis SCH until Yoshida-P learns the error of his ways. What a heinous addition to an already oppressive play-style. I will not be sorry.

Edit: casters do not sleep on Rust. I swear to god if y'all just stack comet I'll scream. If you have a SCH using Diabrosis you are making an enemy's recuperates go from 15k to 6.75k In other words, you are also deleting any BH5 healing that may be going on. Please abuse.

The new spells look fun, strong and quite varied in their application. Some combos sound busted. Only healers' are a bit more one-dimensional. I wish there was a more offensive option instead of the heal/barrier. The healing debuff is very good though.

Plenty of combos that will make FL/RW more explosive, which is good.

Good of them to reduce attack delay, don't know why they changed so many to begin with...

The damage modifiers make sense (for what they're worth), notably for rdm/sge/vpr.

And finally, the BH changes look great. Faster generation and rewards group play more than individual kills.

After reading the patch notes, it seems clear the devs want us to focus on stacking LBs and AoEs. By lowering kill scores but boosting assist scores, they're likely aiming to revive the DRK/SMN metas. On top of that, DRK now has additional survival tools, Casters have Comet, healers can pocket heal. It's going to get messy.
