I need to take you up on this point again but do you know how to make those macros (or where to find resources on them)? Because I don't find any text commands of that sort ("Target Enemy 1 in the enemy party list").
I only know those "indirect" solutions. I.e. target enemy who's attacking you, target enemy closest to you, target your target's target, etc. But no direct "target enemy nr. 1 in the list".
Because I'm an idiot and my brain mixed up "keybinds" with "macros" asdfjkshgfjk. orz
Stupidly, I thought I could create macros with new text commands that allow for precise enemy targeting. But no, it's only for keyboard. x__x
Is there any way to create a keybind on your keyboard (e.g., "Target enemy 1" on the key "1"), then turn this into a macro and then put that macro on my cross hotbar?

Bit of a rant for the devs, feel free to ignore.
Edit: I found the target placeholders for CC enemies and with them you can create the macros I had hoped for so that is amazing and I take back most of my rant.
The point I want to stick with is that I still think they should add ready-made hotbar commands for "Target Enemy X in the CC enemy list" like they did with the new "Target Enemy marked with X" actions in the "General Action" menu, simply for the sake of player friendliness.
Lots of players that have little experience with macros will most likely not figure out on their own how to create those macros by themselves. They will probably not even know it's possible to create them in the first place.
Making these targeting actions more obvious and accessible in the menu would still help those players a lot.
I need to take my praise for the devs back. Tbh I'm even quite annoyed now because they were *this* close to implement a simple but really meaningful solution that would have helped a lot to level the playing field for controller players.
With the new keybinds mouse and keyboard players get even more options for precise targeting while controller players are still left with their sub-par targeting tools.
I assume the concern here is that text commands can be linked with job skills and that this could be abused for skill or LB syncing, or skill chaining macros.
But in that case, please give us those new target keybinds as actions we can add to our hotbar.
In fact, the new targeting actions they added under "General" in the Actions & Traits menu add insult to injury because it shows they can give us advanced target buttons like "Target Player marked as X" that you can add to your hotbar.
(And I'll concede these are useful if somebody marks targets but it's not the same kind of individual control you need in every encounter.
Also you can't always rely on your team mates to mark enemies, esp. in lower ranks.)
We even get hotbar commands. For. Tab Targeting. The same old problem but a different button.
There's no good reason why they can't give us a hotbar action for "Target Enemy 1 in the list" then.
(Put it in the PvP profile menu for PvP actions if its too specific for the "General Action" menu.)
If it sounds like I'm malding it's because I am. : P
Targeting on controller has been my number 1 source of frustration in PvP. You can't imagine how excited I was about the idea of getting it fixed.

I'll try to play with controller and keyboard for targeting for the time being but it's a really sub-optimal solution. Having to jump around between keyboard and controller with one hand while trying not to be too late with your job actions makes for a sub-par gaming experience.
And yeah, in terms of efficiency you could probably just switch to mouse/keyboard at that point but some players choose controllers for a reason, be it simple preference or because controllers are easier on your hands.
So please SE. Hotbar commands for targeting players in your CC enemy list.
