Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows / FFXIV

I have to keep restarting FFXIV after my controller auto turns off which is annoying!

I'm just wondering if there is a fix or should I just grab the wired version?

Sorry for posting this in General Discussion, I just wanted to get more feedback as not everyone regularly checks the other ones.

    Thanks

I wouldn't expect too much considering they're not even offering a fullscreen mode that doesn't crash after tabbing

I had the wireless version, it constantly shut off and would not reconnect unless you resbooted the game. Oddly enough it had no issues resyncing on the title screen but never anywhere past that for some reason. I tried the wired adapter but it was more of an annoyance in itself.

I ended up purchasing the wired version which has been much nicer. It has a cord long enough to reach the end of any room, or wrap the slack around a desk leg if you're trying to avoid tangling. Although I do warn that some versions of it have a safety catch that will disconnect if the wire becomes taut. In which case once again the game has to be completely shut down in order for the controller to reconnect once you plug it back in.

I'm really hoping that the controller reconnect issue is somehow resolved in 2.0 but I doubt it will. It's likely to be more at fault regarding Microsoft than SE.

Logitech also has a Sony styled controller you could use, I've tried that but they broke every 3 months. There are probably a lot of obscure branded controllers out there on the market, there's even an official FFXIV one.

I will try that guide thanks, I do see this as an FFXIV problem though. I afk a lot and I would be constantly buying batteries or recharging which isn't really acceptable imo.

I hope this is fixed in 2.0 because I prefer the freedom of wireless, headset/controller/keyboard/mouse etc.

It reconnects fine in other games. :3

yeah i can absolutely see the problem with that. i just use a wired controller to be honest. i have a wired 360 controller and a wired ps3 controller. i use the ps3 controller right now for this game. (it's more comfortable to me ^^)

It's not a problem with your xbox controller. It's just the way FFXIV works (or doesn't work). Just like you can't change graphics settings w/o restarting the game. The system config is outside the game graphics/input settings and sound enabling.

Ver 2.0 might fix this with a whole new client, so can you live with it for another month or 2 til beta and see? Or burn $20-30 bucks on a wired version and be done with it for good?

I bought the wired version to save myself the headache, but that was well over year ago.

I use a wireless ps3 controller, motioninjoy drivers and an iogear Bluetooth adapter. I used to have the disconnection issue but in MIJ's interface there was an option to turn off my controllers auto disconnect. I did that and haven't had an issue since.

When I used the 360 wirelessly I had nothing but issues and it drove me crazy so I switched.
