It has its uses certainly, unless the piece you're storing is also dyed in something expensive like pure whites/jet blacks/pastel pink.
Even then, if you've only got one or two pieces with fancy dyes but have the full set stored in the dresser, you can still gain some extra spaces by buying a second copy of the fancy-dyed piece and using the undyed one to complete the set.

They were very clear that it's a half-done work in progress and that they had started with a focus on level 1 glamour sets. That's why the non-dyeable level 1 Makai gear is currently included but the level 60 version is not.
