What an original and compelling argument. What do you think would happen if everyone took your sage advice?

But I will answer your question. I run a FC of moderate size and I happen to like the community I've grown here. The lore in FF14 is still good enough that I can cook with it for RP purposes even if FF14's writing team burned down the kitchen with DT's MSQ.

Unless you're part of some massive FC or community, "small percentage" is a bold statement to make for a personal sample size. Hasn't there been plenty of criticism of the daily grind?

Progression raiding often adds time to content, yes. This is probably why SE is focusing on it for the 1% at the expense of the majority of their fanbase. #content yeah? Too bad it doesn't appeal to most of their players, just basing it off of the community sentiment here. as well as ultimates being difficult by design and not achievable by everyone (which is fine when it's not the focus of your content), of course.

The problem with dailies is that you're paying, essentially, for recycled content. It's not like you get to recycle the money you're paying for said content.

Sadly we have this system called "housing" that keeps players subbed just to not lose their property.

I want to know this too. Why does everyone use that as an insult?

However I suspect the answer is that the gameplay of visual novels doesn't allow the hardcore to distinguish themselves.

Even some visual novels try to involve some kind of engagement with the player--player choice and multiple endings being some of the more common. This is still "gameplay" insomuch that it provides opportunity for the player to be an active participant--something that is ultimately missing in FF14's story atm.

"Some" does a lot of work there. Loads of visual novels don't have multiple endings or branching stories, yet are enjoyable and engaging regardless. A player is an active participant not because of these bells and whistles, but by virtue of being an audience through which the medium comes to life.

Personally, I don't care and it doesn't matter for the point of this thread. MSQ is the selling point of the expansion. It is -bare minimum- to provide MSQ content. It's not a fancy gimmick. Acting like SE is generous for handing us MSQ is just ridiculous. As we mostly only sit and watch MSQ unfolding ONCE, I can not see this as gaming content either. Plus the MSQ is not the best in this expansion which made many players skip on purpose, which is a shame and entirely on the devs.

If I was a player who only cared about msq and I wasn't feeling it this expansion, I'd unsub for most of the year and resub at the end of the patch cycle in advance of the next expansion. That's what a reasonable person would do. I don't think most people only care about msq, like you say, though. I think people like other things in this game. At the end of the day we're all expected to be adults here and it's up to each of us to choose how we spend our money. If you think you don't get enough out of your subscription, there's an easy course of action you could take. So I'm sure we all agree that most people who remain subbed find the game is worth the cost of their subscription.

PvP matches take 5-10 minutes but if you are into PvP, why do they feel so much meatier than a 15 minute dungeon? So much so that for a time I only login to do Feast matches and nothing else.

It's fine for content to be delivered in short bursts. But there is a crucial ingredient missing that makes the same 15-minute dungeon so dreadful to play through in a roulette and yet makes PvP so engaging.

    To the OP:

Right now I wouldn't even sub (on my main) if there are 40 expert dungeons, 30 alliance raids, 10 beast tribes, 20 role quests etc... I would not even pay $3. Maybe not even $2. Why would I? I've already done the same shit all the way from 9 years ago.

In 7.3 they will release a new deep dungeon. But will I treat it as a $13 content? No, because I've already done PotD, HoH and EO. Why would I pay $13 to do it again? Death Stranding 2 is coming out in the summer and that seems like a far better use of my money and my time.

I was planning to stay subbed on my main and just be an MSQ andy this expansion but even that is out of the question with how shit the story and the writing are. So now even the MSQ is not worth subbing for.

You might hate hearing this but there is a reason player count dropped off a cliff. Clearly there is a reason more and more people are finding that each patch does not justify even one month's worth of subscription.

Even if you include the dailies and frontlines--which is ludicrous, considering that this isn't new content by any means, the difference in time per dollar is staggering. And that's ignoring the actual quality of the content!
Even if we're charitable and say you don't have to be subbed for the entire patch, it's still 3 months of sub because they intentionally stagger the content out and space it by, conveniently, four weeks lmao.

This glosses over the quality of the content.

To take one example, the DT allied society quests were an extremely efficient way to level. But were they interesting? Repeatable for reasons other than XP?
