I wouldn't mind if the game added an unlock path for players with less interest in story (that doesn't require a real money purchase) even if I wouldn't use it myself. Roulettes and random matchmaking in Duty Finder could be locked to players that skip MSQ but they could still do the content with pre-formed parties or Duty Support. But I don't see it happening. Story is supposed to be central to the Final Fantasy experience so they want players to see it. If that's not your preference in games, there are plenty of other games to play.
I think the problem is that sometimes the cutscenes don't really serve any purpose. We have speech balloons and conversations normally; so pulling us into a cutscene only to see that happen can be kind of lame. At least some DO mess a bit with music and expressions but there are plenty of quests in particular that pull oyu into a convo just to have a modest simple convo.
