same, the game really felt like some sort of offline expansion for ff14 and lost every aspect that mode prior ff games fun to play (hidden super bosses, hidden weapons, things to explore, etc.). It has nothing to offer than a mediocre mainstory and a soundtrack, which was actually really good.
I hope they take it as some wake up call, that people dont like that concept
Funny enough the Chinese "knock off" of FFXVI has been getting more of a stir than what actual 16 did...
Same, It was the same thing with Kingdom hearts.
I saw it came to steam and said to myself, Nah . . The console clowns already had all their fun with it and wrecked it online i'm not here for your sloppy seconds.
Either release it right away on PC or sod off.
Anyways, I don't feel bad for Square Enix. They deserve the backlash and low sales numbers after how they've treated FFXIV, I pay my sub each month and barely get jack for it anymore.
They need to up the update frequency or get comfortable with only having subs once a year for a month cause that's all you need to get fully caught up.
Maybe once every two years - when an expansion drops.
If you are only here for the story there is no need to pay a sub at all, just use the free login campaigns.
The last free login campaign let you play for 4 days, that should have been enough to play through 7.1, including the alliance raid. It also lasted for a whole month, so no need to plan your schedule around it either.
It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.
The difference with KH is that KH always has been on console. There is no strong PC KH community. FFXVI was slightly different, because the FFXIV players were hyped as fuck. It was the easiest sales ever. Most of us would have bought the game day one without even thinking twice, whatever its quality. But SE being SE, they're illiterate when it comes to reading their public, and they achieved to ignore the fact the vast majority of the western FFXIV players were on PC, while few people would buy a PS5 for that game. KH would surely have sold more copies if it released on PC, but it was not cutting yourself from the majority of your potential players. The PS4 park at the time was also far more established than the PS5 park when XVI released.Same, It was the same thing with Kingdom hearts.

Then the game released, and it had an identity crisis. It wanted to be an action game, but they didn't assume their creative choices, but the it was numeroted FF, they still went with some of the RPG specification. They could not choose between action and rpg, so the combat gameplay ended lacking both the rpg element or the action element. They felt they had to make it last for 60 hours, despite the story being written for 2 or 3 time less, ending with a lot of padding between good scenes. They even put the higher difficulty behind completion, wihich is ok on an action game that last 10 to 20 hours with a lot of replayability, but is utterly stupid on a 60 hours game. Nobody's gonna play for 60 hours to unlock the good stuff.
Honestly, the fact it's a numeroted FF brought the game down. Change the name to make it spin-off (like FFT), assume your choice and make it full fledged action game, by polishing the fighting, keep all the epic highs of the game while shortening/removing all the underwhelming things in between, and you could have a nice 20 to 25 hours action game, à la GoW.

Yeah, not having a steam release when the game actually comes out is such a dumb decision that hurts the sale numbers.
The hype for a game will always be a lot lower 1-2 years later when it finaly comes to steam, then most people who would have bought it on release already know everything about the game from videos.
