I've never met anyone who started playing FF14 because they'd heard the combat system was good, largely because it isn't.

It was great though! You mightve missed the glorious HW times. Truly you had to make so many more decisions about the rotations. I and my entire FC started playing for that reason. But on the contrary, i never heard about anyone starting this game for RP reason either

HW was glorious. There's a reason back then in Idyllshire people talked about rotations, about opti, about raids, and just generally banter with each other. Something you never see anymore in FF14.

I miss the days when you don't even know if you can finish Mhach or Dun Scaith without running out of the timer. That led to good memories. The game felt like an actual game, and you're playing with actual people.

You're somewhat conflating job design with combat. FFXIV's combat has always suffered from an egregiously long global cooldown and janky netcode that limits the types of mechanics they can use.

In any case, re: the greater thread, I don't see ERP as all that much of an issue. Just don't AFK in Limsa? I barely see any of that stuff. That said, as long as FFXIV remains the premier destination for it, it's gonna be here to stay.

No no i agree with you. You have a point. But unfortunately this game is now already infested with those people. The real problem will be to get rid of them again.
They try to push the raiding community by releasing lots of raid content, but thats not enough. We do need a combat reform of some sort.

It's going to be really tough now that Ishgard is no longer a fanatical, heretic-burning theocracy.

I have. A lot of the WoW players who came, including myself did. I know at least over 10 people who did.
Because the rp mechanics in this game are superior to WoW's aside from a few tidbits like not being able to lie down everywhere, holding large events easily cause you cant put down a marker for your whole alliance raid. Etc

WoW has Goldshire, 14 has Quicksands.
When theres a will theres a way. Not calling out any witch hunts, but if you witness ERP content in public you can report it.
If its done in private its following ToS

Quicksands ERP scene is pretty much only on Balmung. I can sit there on Light DC without someone hitting on me without my consent.
But since you play(ed) both games aswell you can see the huge difference between the RP community in WoW and XIV.
We can probably both agree that Limsa is the Orgrimmar/Stormwind of FFXIV. In all the years I played WoW I've never seen a single ERP Event Ad with inappropriate Language while Idling in Orgrimmar. Meanwhile Limsa "RP" Event Ad's are going totally crazy like the one example I gave on Page 10 in this post.

I would just report that shout like it's crossing the line into inappropriate territory even in LL I luckily haven't read anything similar yet.

I'm just gunna say, if any 12yo are playing games like GTA or playing any MMO without supervision, the parents aren't parenting. Don't blame the game for not being an appropriate babysitter.

I have flashbacks of those parents who ask you to educate their children for them, happily forgetting that your role as a teacher is not to do everything but to help them progress in a given subject.
Same thing here, as you say: games can't replace parental control either.
