Do you think the game will ever get better and if so when?

I recently took a vacation off ffxiv to broaden my horizons. i've always been a 1 game andy and desperately afraid of being on my own for more than five minutes... so the idea of not playing ffxiv was like having a part of myself gutted. i kept making excuses why i should keep playing the game
    - my friends are here (yea like all 3 of them)
    - how will I function without my wol for FIVE minutes
    - new games are scary and I cba learning the controls
    - there's no other good MMOs on the market rn that fill in ffxiv
    (greetings from MHWilds)

but after finally cutting the umbilical cord i was able to take a look at the game in hindsight (and yea, a week isnt enough to form that but its been something i've been thinking about since 6.3)
    - I noticed when playing wilds what REAL gameplay felt like and its great to see a game that CARES about its lore!
    - I noticed when watching sonic 3 what GOOD compelling storytelling looks like.
    - I noticed when replaying some of the older title like kingdom hearts how good boss battles and combat systems can look!

it all got me thinking.. im looking for something.. that i just DON'T find in ffxiv. i'm even starting to wonder if i EVER found it. SEGA listens to its fans, CAPCOM listens to the feedback, SQUARE used to put quality and ingenuity first... but with ffxiv.. i don't feel hopeful things will get better.. im dreading they just always stay the same, because that's all we've ever seen. And so i put it to you, what do YOU think? is there hope or is ffxiv an unavoidable sinking ship
    - if the latter, what's keeping you around

The fact you unironically compared Sonic and Wilds to FFXIV... Lmao. And I am a critic of SE and FFXIV in general but man what a comparison

Does it need to be better? I think it's fine the way it is, except for the glamour system.

I get a similar feeling when playing other games and then jumping back into FFXIV. While it's not the best idea to compare single player games to FFXIV since the latter is supposed to be an MMO. It still shows, however, that FFXIV is lacking in gameplay creativity when it comes to mostly the normal and easily accessible content.

Though it may not happen for awhile, I think it would be in the dev team's best interest to start experimenting with content again to see what sticks and giving the "tried and true" formula they been using for over a decade now a much needed shake up.

It's funny you should ask, because until yesterday I consciously thought the answer was
"yes, but how long will it take to get significantly better, and will I still be bothered enough to give it another chance".

However I'm wondering if subconsciously the answer was "no I don't believe it will get better", because I'm about to roll into my 2nd unsub in 3 months, and today suddenly I wake up and my conscious answer is "No"

I played on NA for 2 years and loved the "vibe" of the people.
I played on EU for two years and until DT I loved the vibe of the people and sprouts were a big part of that.

Now the vibe of the whole social game everywhere has changed and it doesn't appeal to my personal tastes at all. It has been a microcosm of Darwinian evolutionary theory. The grames problems has filtered out certain types of players, and in survival of the fittest this is what's now left. "Your burnt out"."Take a break ".'i guess it's not for you"."play other games". Everytime someone said that a bunch of people were listening, and they have it serious consideration and they left.
A player that leaves, leaves for good 'until' 'if' they come back.

The game has sprouts. But I think they are very largely console players. Probably a lot of Xbox. Their attention span on the game is limited, 'and they don't use in game chat at all'. It basically doesn't exist for them except for 3 words of twitch chat shorthand.

Rarely do people want to help each other. Yes, occasionally but (and here we go) but only if it's the scheduled help they offering, not the help or company your inviting them to in chat. Which is fine. But it's not part of what I enjoyed.

The people and community have changed. That's what I liked about the game, and I don't think that can be fixed now.
Not unless they change their priorities/values, and do gargantuan amounts of dev really expensively. And that's just not going to happen.
Even then the social shift change back will be slow. The type of player/personality that was like minded (wants to approach my kind of content my casual kind of way - just have fun) has lost hope and forgotten about the game. Getting their 'hope' back that's it's worth investing in the game month to month again I think is very close to impossibly hard. It's not impossible but I think it's now impossible hard. It's going to take huge resources and years.
SQX you need to take a risk and invest medium to long. Or it's game over. A short term investment isn't going to cut it now, a short term return just doesn't exist in this marketplace.
You've fckd it up I'm afraid.
And the reality is that risk if you take it, yeah, it might go bad. Gaming is just perilous
I think Square Enix need to consider themselves the "dead man walking" already.
And this is their only appeal to save themselves from the shareholder/receivers electric chair, but it might not work out happy for them. Do or die.

In the end, this is not about a game being good or bad - it's about your very personal mindset.

To me, FF14 is not a live or death thing. It's a pastime I see as my home away from home experience to get away from all the real world trouble - for a time at least. I do not want it to be challenging, or hard... I dont' have to proove anything... I don't care about 2 minute buff windows, job homogenization, formulaic raids, and all the other stuff everybody here is in arms about. I log in, dabble around a bit, and am happy.

And as long as FF14 is scratching that itch of mine, I will continue to play it. And when it does no longer, I will leave - like I left WoW years ago, after it turned into a glorified lobby for e-sports nonsense, now with additional light speed mount gimmickry.

Even if it does get better you can just come back later it's not like they delete your account

This is exactly the type of player FF14 caters to. It's a fast food MMO
