The purpose of Atomos revealed in that fancy new XIV 2.0 trailer?

Quoted from the new XIV trailer:

"Yet the bravest among us was spared . . . sent beyond the reaches of time."

. . . Sounds a lot like what Atomos is good at. At least, assuming that most people played Wings of the Goddess and went back and forth through time.

Anyone else have any other Atomos theories?

Atomos (アトモス, Atomosu?), also known as Atmos, is a recurring creature that has appeared as a summon, boss, and story element in various Final Fantasy games. Its signature attack, Wormhole, can sometimes remove a character from battle. As a summon, it is commonly associated with the Gravity element.

It might be our Eikon. The ability to see the past was given to us by someone, according to Ifrit, and he said we shouldn't summon it. But it's most certainly only me wanting to have an amazing eikon :'(

Except if they decided Atomos wasn't linked with time (it was a first in FFXI).

I don't think it will be an Eikon, since there will be many of them and in many locations.

I wouldn't mind Atomos as our personal Eikon, good thought. I forgot about those since they kind of stopped doing our Path of the twelve missions.

I would personally prefer Odin, Fenrir, or Carbuncle as our Eikon. . . but I wouldn't mind a gravity distorting mouth as one, either.

Yah FFXI he was linked to time. . . but the rest he was linked with Gravity. At least in 5 and 9. Though since Gravity and Time seem to be related. . . Ah well, either way. Glad to see he's in XIV.

You shouldn't call them Eikons I hear they don't like that term very much. It is an offensive term the empire uses that means false god. They prefer to refer to themselves as Primals.
