However, now that the game no longer meets my standards (just my personal opinion, of course), I find myself questioning the real value and justification of a monthly subscription model.

At this point, the only reason I’m still subscribed is FOMO (mainly due to the housing system).

I know this is just my personal take, but… do you still think a monthly subscription model is justified?
I absolutely believe it should be a monthly sub model, if you go to any free mmos and some paid, you realize how bad it can get when you remove the monthly sub. I know people complain about it, but they can still cancel at any point if they feel the sub isn't worth it. I know they can lose their house as well, I've gone into that because I own a house and they're practically useless once they're decorated, the only housing that matters is fc housing.

Agree. Main reason I switched from GW2 to FFXIV was the monetization of stash tabs and such. I'd rather pay a sub and have a more complete experience because of it.

The day FF14 goes free to play, I'm out. I would much rather pay for a subscription than watch the game move to having everything become a shameless cash grab or pay-to-win/advance.
I understand that there are already many cash grabs in the eshop, but right now those are mostly cosmetic items (with the sole exception of story skips, which doesnt directly affect me). However being forced to "pay to win or spend an eternity to slog through an endless grind, I would quit either way.

Honestly at this point, if someone wants a Pay to win title, go elsewhere. There are plenty. It does not need to be this one.

Yes. But CB3 considers the market for its game to be:
    * NEW players who will have X expansions of content to keep them organised, and the 1 to 2 to 3 years of subs that will be worth depending upon whether their priority is MSQ RPG, or Endgame.
    * Driven End Game high end raiders. The ones Yoshi-P wants to impress.
    * The black market of add-on hungry RPers.

If you are a casual gamer. Then you will turn from 'NEW player' to doropping out of CB3s intended market for the game, and it genuinely is ok for you to sub only when/if you feel there is enough content to justify your purchase of the expansions and 1 or 2 months of sub. (I think they are mistaken in this, as its eating away the 'health' of their RP and High End communities, but I do think that's how they have 'specified' their target markets.)

I don't plat any free games. I've yet to find one I don'[t find horrible i many respects.

No, we don't want XIV to go to F2P. We would end up paying way more out the nose for basic features we take for granted now. And a lot of them offer some sort of sub to get back the features they took away anyway.

It's fine to think the current sub isn't worth it. That's something we all have to consider for ourselves. But we don't want this game to go down the F2P route.
