TBH even with all the issues regarding hats I'd still prefer subs over F2P hell days like MMO by Nexon when I played when I couldn't afford better games as a kid. I'm glad we don't have gacha boxes and I'll be glad until the end of time since they really tank the MMO reputation like no other.

As I tried to put across in my earlier post (albeit rather badly), gatcha boxes are an absolute cancer in my opinion. So many horror stories online regarding gambling addiction associated with them. Not to mention the game's sleazy attempts at claiming they're not gambling - rubbish like "you're not actually buying a (loot)box, you're actually buying a method of opening a box".

Hell - I spent more on them than I care admit in the game I used to play before I realised that the game itself wasn't really producing any new content to actually play because it was too busy producing new lootboxes for players to throw money at. And what the heck is the point of spending stupid amounts of money trying to obtain the new shiny grand-prize P2W thing when there is no new content to actually use it in?

I think it should be a monthly sub model. Given the game is part of the FF franchise and given a lot of players are really hardcore fans of the FF series, it would be a case where if they really wanted to they could monetize this game so so much more.

They would monetize more cosmetics, more items would be released exclusively through MogStation-- More than what there currently is, and then we will eventually get into a situation where we have crappy loot-crate / gambling-esque systems, then who knows, maybe they'll eventually go down the path of supporting directly buying prestigious items.

The only thing I would say is that granted, the state of the game at the moment just puts it in a spot where it's difficult to justify the subscription without extrinsic factors, e.g., friends, or if you're here for more social aspects of the game, versus being content driven. But I do think the alternative is still much worse.

and we can argue that.. More Money = More stuff.. But demonstrably this isn't the case.

But SE needs to do something before they're forced onto that path. The state of DT ain't it.

I recommend actually playing a free to play game and immersing yourself in the experience before you ask for this. That or watching Josh Strife Hayes's "Worst MMO Ever?" and saving yourself the trouble.

Standards are so low that the biggest debates in the MMO sphere are whether [X] MMO is actually as bad as the worst gacha addiction-forming F2P game that milks $1000000 out of its players or slightly better

Try playing a F2P game like Lost Ark and you'll realize how trash this game's combat system and raids are. The only thing the sub fee does in FF14 is to prevent you from spending $10000 through legitimate channels to get BiS. Other than that lmao, the sub fee is clearly not going towards making FF14 interesting or fun or even deliver any meaningful content.

Are you really using Lost Ark to make an argument? A game that hemorrhaged it's peak of 1,324,761 down to 15K right now, mostly due to it's business model and irritating game systems? It's clearly not that amazingly fun.

Maybe you should try reading and realize I'm talking about the combat and raids. Everyone quit because you hit a wall eventually but in those few months you have way more fun than 12 years of FF14.

That's why people should just quit this game and go play a multitude of single player games and the occasional new MMO. You'll have a way better time than being stuck in this dilapidated outdated MMO lmao. Your sub fees are not going into FF14 and they'll never make this game fun or modernize or innovate.

Just be a tourist, hop onto the newest MMO, ride the highs and quit when you see the P2W wall. That's the smart way to play games. No one should be stuck with FF14 except for ERP which it is very good at.

Imagine playing LA for the story. You just use the free boost to get to endgame and start doing raids.
