I used the term on accident.
I'm not saying Atomos is a maw. I'm pretty darn sure if they created a different model, people wouldn't associate this Atomos as a reference to Abyssea.

I'd assume that the to-be-introduced quest "Monster of Maw Most Massive" will probably involve Atomos, and so they could actually be referred to as "Maws" as a nickname they'd be given like in this title. It could be about something else entirely, but familiarity in names is something that's likely to have happened here (that added nostalgic feel and so on). It's not exactly unheard of.

The term "Maw" doesn't have to mean Atomos, if you look at the art work for other incarnations of Atomos they all look similar, just better graphics, as technology improved, yes there are other differences but you can see where its roots came from. The quest and Atomos may not just be a coincidence but he was brought into the game as Atomos, not a Maw, also if you talk about "The Maw over Bluefog" there is a good chance that none FFXI players know what you are talking about.I'd assume that the to-be-introduced quest "Monster of Maw Most Massive" will probably involve Atomos, and so they could actually be referred to as "Maws" as a nickname they'd be given like in this title. Yea they were introduced as a way to go to the past [S] areas. However they also became the entry way to Abyssea which is a major part of FFXI endgame for the past couple years. People used the maws for abyssea in FFXI on a daily basis so that is what comes to mind.

Atomos goes all the way back to FF5 if you wanna be technical about it. :P
