It used to be like that, and if you stood on the edge it caused issues with aggro reset, double autos, etc.
You can load in and out of an instance to reset your cooldowns. It's jank but it's faster than waiting for your 2 minutes to come back up if you're practising an opener.
As a reference, Goblet Subdivision, Co-ordinates for Striking dummy 11.8, 8.4 (SE corner of plot 40) will disengage at Co-ords 9.8, 9.0, which is approx just north of the Market Board by the apartment building. The distance is far greater than even the target range, which is probably why you haven't bothered to check (not that I blame you, but curiosity did get the better of me when they originally changed it and it still applies now).I do not know what the range is if it still works, but it's probably absolutely ludicrous because I have yet to find it the few times I actually tried.
Awkward, cumbersome, and beyond the point. You want to cancel aggro in a reasonable amount of time, you have to click the dummy.
I agree, as a Picto trying to practice my opener while waiting for my partywide buff to come back is very tedious.
In WoW, they had some groups of dummies clustered in bunches specifically for practicing AOE abilities. It used to be that you had to run FAR away to drop aggro, but now they reset if you don't attack them for a time (something around ten seconds I think)/It wouldn't be that hard to find anything named a striking dummy within a short radius and see if it has you on its enmity list. Often there are several striking dummies close together and many abilities have AoE even in a single target rotation. They probably didn't think of it, but it does present as an issue if using doing at public striking dummies instead of the ones at houses.
Very good ideas both.
Bring back 6.0 Dragoon. I want my job back.
