Pay per extra character!?

Hey all,

I'm still quite new around here.
I've realized that all three starting points yield quite interesting storylines though whether they just all merge together is a different story.

What I don't understand is that I have to pay $3 a month for each EXTRA CHARACTER?

Now before any of you say "you only need one"
For me,
1) I do not just want one perma-look
2) I want to experience all three openings without deleting my characters
3) I want variety

Why is it that I have to pay for extra chars ON TOP of base game? They just can't include everything together!?

In a more situational question

I'm a conjurer with INT/PIE stats. I found a love for Marauder. Should I just delete my CONJR then? I would want to keep my conjurer as a history, but a history is not worth $3/m to maintain.

What you respectable gentlemen and ladies suggest?

FFXIV: A Realm Reborn Standard Package (14.99)= you can make 8 Characters per world ^.^. Right now Payments are stil under that 3 bucks per extra Character.
