    Minions and Mounts?

Hihi, i'm a new player and I was wondering if anyone knows where I could buy or obtain through quests some beginner minions? I want to play verminion in the golden saucer, but also kinda just because they’re cute too x)

I was also wondering if there are other low level mounts to obtain other than the chocobo?

99% of minions can be bought off the Market Board for gil. This is because most of them can be traded. Most of them either drop from dungeons (2% chance so it can take up to 100 runs) or are crafted based on materials that drop from Extreme trials. Over time, they were also added to "catch up" boxes that you can buy with Grand Company seals or other loot boxes you obtain in content such as Deep Dungeons and Field Operations.

A small amount of minions can't be got from the Market Board and come from places such as Achievements or currency exchanges (such as Bicolor Gemstones, Grand Company Seals, Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, Sacks of Nuts, Allagan Tomestones of Poetics, Bozjan Clusters, etc). You can't get most of those currencies at level 28.

Some easy minions you can get at that level come from doing ALL sidequests (many of them give minions) and talking to Jonathas at Old Gridania to exchange Achievement Certificates. Each minion on there should cost only 2 or 3 Achievement Certificates - which frankly, are easy to get and veteran players have tens of thousands of them. If you don't have any, there are lots of very easy and quick achievements to get at that level.

Mounts can also be got from Jonathas in Old Gridania (10.6, 6.2) for Achievement Certificates. Most mounts are not on the market board, as they are used as a way to "motivate" people to grind content. However, there are a good number that can and are sold on the market board - especially ones that normally drop from Treasure Maps.

You can't use mounts at all until you have actually unlocked the chocobo.

    Welcome to Eorzea!

Echoing Jeeqbit's info, minions are gained via a wide variety of means, some are sold by vendors for gil or special currency like Grand Company seals (and once you're a sufficent rank in your Grand Company, you can buy a 'materiael container' which when used will give you either a random mount or minion, with the added advantage that all the possible minions or mounts that you can gain from that are all sellable on the Marketboard so you're not stuck with a useless item if you already happen to possess it!); some are gained through the main scenario and sidequests, some are random drops from certain dungeons and trial battles, and some are potentially brought back from Retainer ventures.

Incidentally, Jeeqbit did not mention this but in every city there is a vendor that sells a couple of minions rather cheaply (it's the same vendor that sells racial starting armour) so that's a good way of getting started with minions if you haven't already gained them.

Mounts you can gain as you go through the main story in the expansion packs but you're not up to that point yet. Also you can gain certain mounts and minions through purchasing the 'Collector's Edition' version of each expansion pack (or purchasing the 'Digital Upgrade' for each expansion which will then grant you the mount and minion automatically on the Mogstation).

And it should go without saying there are some minions and mounts that were gained through past special events that are no longer available, although many of these do end up on the Online Store for purchase with real money (the Online Store also has a lot of unique mounts and minions for purchase there too).

Additionally, certain merchandise will often have a minion or mount included as an incentive for purchase such as the soundtrack albums or the artbooks, but the early ones are no longer available, like the Wind up Dalamud sadly.
