You need to pay $60 dollar to buy the full game, or $40 for an expansion. On top of that there's a subscription fee. After MULTIPLE years of players asking: Can we get Hilda's hairstyle, like this thread here:

Square Enix didn't add it to a dungeon or the Gold Saucer. They added it as a $5 Mog Station item. Do you know many Mog Station items there are in the game now ? The total microtransactions you can buy is now more than $1000. This is for a game that you have to pay AAA money for, on top of that you have a subscription fee, and hmm ? The most popular requests that players have been asking nicely for is something you have to pay extra !

This is just pure, disgusting greed. Not to mention they don't even allow any refund, so if you don't like the hairstyle or change race you can't even do anything about it. How is this acceptable ?

Next time, don't ask Square Enix for any cosmetic. You know what they will do ? They'll take the most popular request and add it to Mog Station.

A core problem is, why wouldn't they? corporations aren't without blame of course, but their behavior is predictable and they will do what nets the most profit, and you will see no shortage of people wearing the Hilda hair around, or how it was impossible to not trip on people wearing the Leisurewear outfit all over the game the week or so after it came out, too many people are too willing to buy, and so Square sees it as free money.

Even I can't claim to be fully immune to it, any time I see that damn store, the Far Eastern Maiden outfit speaks to me like it is the damn Green Goblin mask...

The way I see it, if it's used by an MSQ or story character, then they don't want you to be able to use it since it keeps those MSQ characters unique. But they are willing to let you anyway if you pay them.

Inunderstand the arguments here, but keep in mind, a lot of people including me were screaming for the rainmaker hairstyle forever and then it was added to gold sauce for a small amount of mgp. I'm not gonna sit here and say I don't like the Hilda hairstyle, I just wish we could preview hairstyles we don't currently have at the barber shop. I don't think it would suit my glam and my characters face but maybe it would...I don't want to drop 5 dollars american just to find out it doesn't. On that note I would also like to be able to preview orchestran rolls.

Sadly its just the way that big corpo gaming is just trending. From EA saying that a certain game needed "more live service elements" to be successful, to Blizz making over $15 Million dollars on one mount over a 3 month period, to all the companies waiting and hoping that 2k releases GTA 6 at $100 for the baseline game so they can "justifiably" raise there prices too. As much as I hate Nintendo Corporate, they are the more "honest" company when it comes to nickel and diming there fanbase.

If you want less greed you gotta go with your smaller companies like Larion and Warhorse.

I'm personally not a fan of adding old event items to the cash shop. The items should be purchasable in-game while the events are running. To me, that screams GREED.

Except the Rainmaker hairstyle isn't really much of a comparison to Hilda's hairstyle, if you're talking about the argument of MSQ/story character hairstyles always going into the cash shop.
It was made to be a reward for the Make It Rain Gold Saucer event (hence the name Rainmaker), which also ended up being used as the hairstyle for M'naago. People screamed for to be re-added to the Gold Saucer, since it had only been available during the 2017 & 2018 editions of this event.

Subs are over 50% higher than they were throughout the entire ARR/HW/SB eras, and currently exactly where they were before the "WoW exodus" artificially inflated them. If they were getting on well back in the early days, they're fine now with sub fees.

Biggest issue is hands down that they are character based, not account based.

2nd Biggest is that this should have been a Ishgardian Restoration reward.
