A Thought In Regards To The Glamor Unshackling

First off, as an amateur Fashion Fantasy player, I'm all for this unshackling. Long overdue if'n you ask me~! But with that unshackling comes an ever-present worry...glamor dresser space to put it all! Fortunately, I've thought on the subject a bit, and I've devised three things that might help remedy this.

(But before I begin: the Outfit Glamor system STILL does not cover the Sophist's set and the #55 set, which seems like a really weird oversight, since both sets are purely glam, and should probably be fixed!)

    ONE: THE ARMOIRE
As-is, the Armoire is good, but weirdly limited in matters outside of stashing event and store items. Thus, I posit an expansion of its features, letting it be the place where ALL job-specific and relic stuff is placed. A quick-and-easy one-stop shop for all this stuff, be they replica or original.

    TWO: PALADIN WEAPONS
As a PLD main, weapons and shields taking up separate slots annoys the bejeezus out of me. So, I would suggest usingthe Outfit Glamor system to, essentially, collapse all PLD weapons into a single slot(especially since we GET PLD weapons as a single item nowadays). This does mean that some of them(namely stuff from the early ARR days, which either has no matching weapon or no matching shield) may need to be slightly reworked, but I'd be all for that(especially the Ifrit, Titan, Garuda and Moggle Mog stuff).

    THREE: OUTFIT GLAMOR EXPANSION
This neatly segues me into the other point: the Outfit Glamor system is fantastic for this sort of thing, but its use is...weirdly limited, but I also understand why the system doesn't cover gear with stats to it. Thus, I posit the following compromise: put an NPC in each Company hangout(which I'd be happy to come up with, should anyone want me to) that takes gearsets and, for a sum of Company Seals, exchanges them for statless, purely glam versions of themselves, and can also exchange thusly-glammed pieces back to statted pieces for the same sum.

I would wager that the most commonly used shield glam in the game by far is the Emperor's New Shield, and lots of Paladin players like being able to mix-and-match sword and shield, so to #2... no.

The glamour outfit system lets you store several items as a single slot, however, you can still wear individual pieces. This system would be great for GLD/PLD swords and shields.

Ideal state of tanks: You cannot hurt me in any way that matters
Ideal state of DPS: I can kill you and leave no forensic evidence
Ideal state of healers: What did you say? Honey, hold my flower.

If only we could do this with regular dungeon gear. Spent some time getting gear from Meso Terminal which I really liked but it can only be stored as individual pieces, not as sets.

I also wish we could dye the regular dungeon gear. There are many nice pieces but they often happen to be the wrong colour.

I know the answer is because of the old spaghetti code and console limitations back then. Still it would be nice to just find glamour, unlock it in a little book or something, and then never have to worry about it taking up inventory space. I love FF XIV to death but when you compare their glamour system to other MMOs, FF XIV feels so backwards.

All the ingredients for this are already in the game since the ARR days on PS3.

We have an achievment log, which gets expanded every patch.

We have achievments which unlock when we wear a specific set of gear and then talk to an NPC.

And we have a vendor which sells gear depending on which achievments you have unlocked.

The Garo gear uses all 3 of these steps and is essentially already a working prototype of a glamour log. It jutst needs to be expanded and get it's own UI.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

Do the Glamour Catalogue! Like WoW has!

If you soulbind to a unique-model piece of gear, it gets added to a list of items usable in the dresser!

It's literally that simple! They are keeping the stupid restrictive system on purpose!

Saying they are keeping the current system "on purpose" isn't very fair, I feel. Now don't get me wrong I hate the current system too and constantly criticize the dev team, but it isn't like they consciously choose to keep the current system to spite us. Creating a catalog style system like WoW has requires development time and resources, resources they are currently choosing to spend else where. They HAVE acknowledged glamour systems need an update, and it's currently #2 on their priority list after some house furnishing fixes. The main question here is "will what they cook up for glam be as sensible as the catalog?" though.

They do have a catalogue for the mog station so they can of course do that for viewing purposes only.

Actually allowing you to own every single item is another thing entirely. That takes up HDD space, but they really can't use that argument as a large company and when you can simply make an alt or buy extra retainers.

Based on their recent, more detailed explanation, the issue is too many items being held in server memory. But given the glamour dresser has pages, they should simply load it by page number and that way have unlimited slots.

It would be ideal for all these different types of inventory and item storage to be merged but when you think about them enough on a technical level, they technically function differently and would be complicated to migrate. Nevertheless, it's not impossible to merge some of them if done very carefully.
