If you truly think that someone saying that your theory is both inane and ridiculous is them being a dick, then you need fresh air and to learn how to debate. SE are promoting a game out on cutscenes. The gaming community, even a ridiculously inaccurate / dated site like penny arcade is snerking. SE asked for it by releasing that trailer. What Penny Arcade said or didn't say was lukewarm so no harm, no foul. Fanboys like you jumping at something so minor is what makes gamers laugh at final fantasy / SE fans.

Listen, I know XIV is your hopes/dreams/whatever right now and you follow what's in the works very, very closely. Don't expect other people to. Not covering 99.9% of what's been promised in producer letters =/= trying to make XIV fail. Sites cover what's been released. Nothing other than a cutscene's been released which was a really poor decision by SE. Until gameplay footage is released and used on trailers, they'll get that and worse. Deal with it.

Right now, what we know is this - Gamescom is coming, and SE is revealing FFXIV: ARR on-stage in front of a massive crowd, where Yoshida is going to guide them through a long in-game demonstration. They've already confirmed that they're going to be showing in-game footage of ARR at Gamescom this year alongside their other games. At that point, the 'flood of information all summer long' will begin, and that could be anything. News, interviews, more videos, screenshots, or the whole nine yards.

Also, I'm pretty sure we have yet to see this year's TGS, where they'll probably release even more information, and give more future players the chance to sign up for alpha, or beta, or whatever.

The point is that none of us, I repeat NONE of us know the full extent of SE's marketing scheme for this game. So don't act like a know-it-all and put down a fan of the game because you think you can see the future.

Until Gamescom happens / a in-game footage gameplay trailer is released, SE deserve criticism. I'm saying that person's view that Penny Arcade are deliberately not hyping the game / the plan for features in 2.0 because of some agenda against SE is ridiculous. No future seeing, no anything. I'm not the one saying "ah well they're doing this, that, this", the other guy was. It doesn't take any futureseeing or any kind of genius to know that if SE release a trailer based on purely cinematic effect and say "Buy it!" which by the way, is the reason trailers exist they deserve criticism.

Penny Arcade's criticism was lukewarm, they'll get way worse from other sources until they release a trailer showing gameplay. Get down off your high horse and learn to read posts before you attempt to whiteknight.

Did you even watch the segment? They did not rip on the game. Repeat: They did not rip on the game.

The only thing I got out of the clip was they're trying to send SE the message that they cannot market ARR with cutscenes. That's it, that's all.

Insulting people as if PA and anyone who agrees with them thinks XIV is the absolute worst experience they've ever had, including the time they got their tongue stuck to the flagpole, suggests you didn't even watch the video.

Yes this, right here! You hit it right on the nail, and I think everyone is forgetting that they are reporting on it looking through the same lens that most people will look at it through, rather than the way we look at it as rabid fans. (We are rabid fans, because we have played this game through thick and thin. Admitting that is okay. Accept it. Have we accepted it yet? Okay!) Their reaction is the same reaction that anyone who looks at the trailer and hasn't been playing the game for two years already is going to have. They need to see more than this.
