We know that. The point isn't SE making money, the point is SE making money but not providing the content their product should promise by the nature of being an MMO. You want money from your customers every month, then provide content for your customers every month. Not make a shit housing system and solely profit from the trust/fomo/loyalty of your customers. That's just vile business practices and need to be called out as such.

But if they made that content (housing) easily available to all, many players would let their subscriptions lapse for months on end. It is quite possible subscriptions would drop overall if they addressed the housing shortage. And at the end of the day, if Yoshi made that calculation (with my assumptions), if the chance of keeping subs is higher under a limited housing system, then they will keep that. Regardless of what was promised.

The average person, if staying away for 6 weeks due to "I'll come back when there's enough story / content / ultimate etc..." either isn't the kind to care about a house or won't care about FF anymore after being away that long. I'd bet the minority who stay away that long come back at all.
I personally don't know anyone who's been away for 6 weeks that's actually been interested in coming back to the game, would be interested to know other people's experiences.
