Has there been a necromancer job in a previous FF series game? I suppose if there was, it would have be a villain. But generally speaking, the jobs we have are usually based on heroes from previous installments.

FF5 advance did. It was similar to a Blue Mage in that you learnt things from enemies, however, you learnt the spells by killing specific enemies.

Can they not kinda get around the ‘Necromancer’ rules in certain places by making adjustments to things like the name/lore? Like instead of forcibly taking control of dead bodies it could construct skeletons or zombies or whatever out of some aether-macguffin type ‘dead soul juice tm ’ or whatever. Call it idk Soulmancer or Necrocaller lol. Skeleton Mage?
In terms of as a Phantom Job I could definitely see the ‘Necromancer’ title fitting an old-style Summoner DoT set of abilities. Like if it added two DoTs, a Fester ability, and a Bane ability? Plus it’s all pre-existing assets so none of that pesky ‘work’ required (mostly) lol.
Though obviously with the debuff limit or whatever devs are deathly allergic to DoTs these days lol
Isn't this more or less the logic they use for RPR? WoL's Avatar isn't being forced to work with us, other than struggling with general Voidsent hunger urges, they are a pretty heroic individual, confirmed to be the Thirteenth's Reflection of Azem, who willingly shares their power with us and is happy with our current arrangement, which is a stark contrast to an evil Reaper like Zenos, who subjugated his Avatar against her will. The hero will only use the souls of those who are willing to lend their power to the hero via a form of ritual communication where the hero communicates with a well of souls not unlike the aetherial sea. And the number of souls they have willing to lend them power determines their strength
FF11 was originally intended to have a necromancer job for the aht urghan expansion but they decided during developing that expansion to have puppetmaster instead along with corsair and blue mage.

That is when the true Vana'diel of legend will be reborn.
My biggest worry with Phantom Jobs (aside from the terrible translation, as it should be "Support Job") is that they each end up as a rigid set of passive and active actions, turning the customization aspect of the new FO very limited.
Other than that, it would be really nice if they used the FO to experiment prospective jobs and job mechanics for the future as that content is the perfect enviroment to break the game.
Im like 95% sure all that phantom jobs will do is unlock/add those 2 extra skills like with Bozja maybe some kind of passives. But yeah, im really not expecting much there. I suspect each role type maybe even each job will have different skills unlocked/added with the same phantom job but... I think thats like it with them.
I just hope this new exploration zone or whatever the community calls these is actually fun. I wasn't a fan of eureka and Bozja....I know it wasn't necessary to play them but I hope this time around they change it up a bit and make it more interesting.
From what we've seen. It seems to be a hybrid between Eureka (Leveling-wise) and Bozja (Bosses-wise) with a new addition being the Phantom jobs system.
