Thematic issues. Why all the sci fi.

It's not about the existance of sci-fi, its the low effort of just inserting a city that looks like our current gaming PCs, adding our current phones, energy drinks, cars, etc.

Old FF games had tech, yes, but they were all stylized in a way that made them unique and fit the world because the ppl who came up with the designs were actually creative and had skills. And then the writers were also skilled enough to make it make sense within that world. There is absolutely no reason S9 couldn't completely overrun the entire world with the armada that attacked Tural, much less their entire army. The woodwailers in Grid would have no chance against a cyborg with a laser gun much less 100 cyborgs with laser guns and a warship with tech that is hundreds if not thousands of years more advanced than theirs. Unless of course you have the FF power of friendship and tacos.

Anyone can fart out what we are getting now and it doesn't feel like it belongs because it doesn't. It belongs in our world. FFXV imo had this same issue. The moment i saw a irl car and clothing I was instantly turned off of the whole game. That is fine in some games, but it feels just dirty in a FF game. You can have vehicles, that is fine, but make them fit the setting, don't just import our current cars into the game.

Some of you may be content with just being given whatever. But a lot of us have a little higher expectations out of a company that brought us so many amazing, well crafted and carefully thought out FF games.

Not all of them. The game Alexandria is based on, FFIX, had this exact sort of jump from fantasy to sci-fi when going from Gaia to Terra. Terra was a completely alien landscape. The art style was the same, but it has that same jarring aspect of wrongness. It was also a civilization of advanced technology. There were just limitations to really showing this fully back on the PS1.

Alexandria is the same. It's a bit like a IX world where Gaia and Terra fused like they were supposed to and Gaia got upgraded with Terran technology. Coming from Etheirys, it's alien and foreign and technologically advanced. So putting that in a modern perspective, that correlates to something more like cyperpunk to our standards now. And graphics today allow this difference to be accented a lot more.

You can make all the excuses for a multi million dollar company all you want, but I still think its a copout in a FF game to just shove things in that we see daily instead of doing what they did in past games. Esp since you are avoiding my direct criticism that it feels lazy because it feels like the "artist" they used just drew his gpu instead of being an actual creative and doing something more unique. A few small things, like a lamp or a stove, here and there is fine, but an entire city that looks like my PC is just incredibly lazy design that, like I said before, anyone can fart out. I even said before the expac released that the juxtaposition of a tribal like culture next to cyberpunk 2077 was going to be a hard thing to pull off, and they didn't pull it off at all. Not from a visual pov, not from a writing pov and even with suspension of disbelief, not from a logical pov. The big difference between FFIX and DT is the writers took a lot more care in IX to make it make sense and to make it look like something much more fantastical than a 2000ce PC or a ps2. I am sure if the Terran tech was just a cordless phone, a fax machine and an ipod, ppl would have have the same wtf reaction.

We used to hold SE to a higher standard and we should again, instead of just incessently making excuses for them.

Funniest thing about this to me: In most Final Fantasy games, your first mount is usually a chocobo or a sailboat. In FFVIII? It's a rental car. You need to buy gasoline to make it run.

We aren't even going to go into 13. So not only is it normal for the series, people like it which is why they keep doing it. know what else sells alot Justin beaver concert tickets, twilight is an insult to vampires sold very well. Popularity and sale numbers mean nothing outside the majority of people are worthless sheeps with no brains or taste

Yeah this a difficult topic but when it comes to art it's subjective. Its possible 4 dudes in a car sold better but that doesn't make it the superior aesthetic or a good fit for 14. Kanye West sells millions of copies of his albums and you see him topping the charts, but he's not artistically superior to mozart or beethoven and yet you barely see/hear anyone listening to them often.
