    The Forlorn and griefing

    Hii

I have a suggestion to make: Please make it impossible to finish a Fate as long as someone has aggro on The Forlorn or a Forlorn Maiden.

The Forlorn is kind of rare and like half the time one spawns someone finishes the Fate before The Forlorn is dead.

This is really infuriating and I would call it griefing even. Or "disruption of play".

I was just doing a Fate, I was the only person on the map, a Forlorn spawned and I had it down to 50% when someone else arrived and finished the Fate. I told him in yell chat that he should not finish the Fate but he did it anyway. And there was nothing I could do about it. This needs to change.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

The easy solution for most FATEs would be to add Invulnerable to the normal FATE targets until the bonus targets die. That handles all FATEs except for the item turn in FATEs and escort FATEs. Do we even have escort FATEs in the expansions that can pop Forlorn? Anyway those escort FATEs would be fine without invuln since the FATE isn't complete until the NPC reaches their destination; you can't complete them early while a Forlorn is up. Edit: See Neft's better suggestion below.

It's not either. In re: griefing, it could just be someone oblivious to their surroundings who neither saw the bonus mob nor the text alert saying it had appeared. In re: disruption of play, it's not preventing you from playing the game in the way that a tank refusing to turn on tank stance causes a boss to become literally impossible to beat because it then runs around one-shotting the other party members, or in the way that a DDoS disconnects you from the server. It's definitely annoying when you lose out on that bonus xp but let's not exaggerate here.

FFXIV players when open world content can have negative consequences:

Whether its griefing or not i think matters very little.

a change to this should be made to either prevent the fates completion, make the forlorn easier to kill or allow the forlorn to stick around once the fates completed.

you can talk in chat all you want but theres no guarantee they even have their chat set up to see it, some of us have most chat channels disabled so it's hard to tell if its griefing or not and honestly, doesn't really matter if it is or not.

things like this are just bad game design imo, could even add the forlorn as part of the fates objective

That would probably be the best solution, actually.

Forlorn just needs to be easier to kill.
I've been part of fate grinding parties that are actively looking for those bonuses, one will pop but because the group is too good with dps, the fate will end before people switch to attacking it.
Not really griefing though if someone doesn't do it, can be various reasons why they don't see it.

Which could also make it impossible for solo players who don't care about the bonus to complete the FATE alone depending on what creates enmity on the Forlorn/Forlorn Maiden. It goes both ways.

What the other player did may have been rude but it wasn't griefing or against the ToS since the mechanic is an optional bonus and not the main objective of a FATE. Resetting so you had to start over from scratch would have been griefing.

That's why I suggested the Fate does not complete when someone has aggro on the Forlorn instead of making it an objective. You don't have to kill it to complete the Fate. If you accidentally pull aggro you can just run away until it resets and the Fate will finish. Only downside is that if you don't care about the Forlorn you still have to wait until it's killed to get Fate credit when someone fights it (compareable to finished item collecting Fates).

This is very far from disruption of play. Most people do fates on autopilot. SE is to blame for not making them interesting.

A more elegant solution is to just let the Forlorn remain in the world, and only those who engage with it get credit. if it dies before the fate ends then everyone gets the forlorn bonus as usual
