Questions Regarding Materia Extraction and Application.

So a fairly new crafter and level 50 warrior in these parts would like to get into making some gils via spritbonding and exracting materia. If my original venture proves bountiful I wouldn't mind throwing some slotted weapons/armor on the wards for some good buck. Some of the questions I have are:

    1. How are you able to determine whether an item can have it's materia extracted? (so far i've been looking at http://ffxiv.mozk-tabetai.com/ but was curious as to how reliable this resource is?

    2. What determines the quality of a Tier IV Materia (ex: Bloodthrist 55, 60, 65 ,70 Health) since I've noticed there are four different possible amounts of each stat.

    3. So when placing materia into an item there is a requirement to have that corresponding craft leveled (ex: For slotting a Tier 4 Materia into an AXE you would require 40 Weaponsmithing I assume?) so if Slotting a Weapon Requires 40 BSM is there a stat that enhances the chance for success after the first meteria? And if the requirement is 40 BSM would being a 50 BSM have an advantage? (outside of being able to craft higher level pieces for that slot so you spiritbond faster?

    4. Have players noticed a better quality materia from extracting HQ items?

Thanks for all your input in advance guys.

    1) It says "convertible" on the item in-game next to the spiritbond bar. Pretty much everything crafted can be converted.

    2) Random, it seems. Possibly affected by the level of the item converted.

    3) Meld rates are the same no matter your stats or level. In your example, the 40BSM and 50BSM would have the same meld rate. Only a few things affect meld rates:
    • Materia Quality (of both the materia already melded, and of the materia to be melded)
    • HQ items get a bonus to meld rate (+5%, I think?)

    4) No idea.

Thanks for the quck reply ^_^ One more question though:

    5. Do you have to have the matching craft of the item in order to EXTRACT the materia or do you just merely require a lvl 18 Craft other than cooking/alch?

Once you've spiritbonded an item you can convert it into materia as any class once you've done the quest to get the key item...which I can't remember what it's called...

This has been proven by a JP. Lvl 50 gear has ~50% chance of converting to a t4 materia as compared to ~15% for a lvl 41 piece.

Don't remember the name either, but the quest is north of Ul'Dah. Follow the smoke rising into the air. There should also be an achievement NPC mark on the map.

Caveat to this is I believe you have to be the same or higher craft level of the item you're trying to meld. (ex. a robe made by weavers with an equip level of 46 you have to be level 46 weaver to meld it. Which probably isn't the same level you have to be to actually craft it.)

Cools, thanks. I did not know there was actual data on spiritbond conversion rates.

And yeah, I was just using the example provided by the OP. The minimum level required to meld is plainly pasted on every single piece of gear, so I figured that part was obvious.

You can extract the materia on any class/level, even DoW or DoM. The quest to convert a piece of gear into materia is accessible by any class at level 18 (see below).
