Optimization? That sounds like:
At the end of the day
So why do you care what the game is like or what is was like? Pure nostalgia, no better game to play? Lack of affection and love?
This community is a lost cause when it comes to rng.HW/SB AST was more fun for people who actually enjoyed optimization and not grind their way to a 99 by crit farming.
Because of the random nature of cards you had to make a lot of snap decisions. Expanded Balance wasn't the only right choice and it had pretty hidden depth. Using an Extended Arrow on a monk (in a coordinated group that goads) outside of burst windows can sometimes be a smart choice and is mathematically superior depending on the situation.
Rng has been systematically reduced or butchered all over the place over expansions because people constantly bitch about it. The only reason BRD and DNC still have it is because people consider those as the quarantine zone where all those rng lunatics can be shoved in so they leave everybody else alone.
It goes hand in hand with the fully scripted encounters we've had since the dawn of times.
For Dawntrail apparently "it was a hard debated decision to make considering there is a lot of people that like rng, but we decided to remove it from AST anyway".
For MCH, they never gave any explanation. Just got served with the new nothing burger.
HW MCH was honestly the best job I've ever played in this game. It was so intricately put together, with ammo, old gauss, and the 1-2-3 rng combo all feeding into each other. Felt like a meaty job that I can spend months and still always have new things to learn. This community is a lost cause when it comes to rng.

I just never got that feel anymore after SB. In EW I dabbled a bit in BLM and that was fun, but other than that everything was just so boring. The game went from an actual game with intricate systems to practicing the same passage on a piano again and again. It's 100% a lost cause.
Awwww, that's so sweet clown-senpai. I mean, it's no surprise that you think that the Nael phase is "truly random", when after months of playing a single class there were still new things to learn and discover for you
Tell us, what happened to the account you played back then, why did you need another?
And yet, you stuck around, paying money for new accounts and subscriptions, like a bitter ex (where the other side took the "blame" for the breakupI just never got that feel anymore after SB. I think you and FF14 need to get some couple's therapy, work out your issues together with a professional

Didn't you start playing in what, ShB or EW?
There's like no point trying to convince a ShB/EW baby of how complex and fun HW jobs were, despite the jank. I mean these are the same people who think they are qualified to talk about Ultimate mechanics despite having zero experience in them.
On release even week 1 groups will all be at 642, 643 ish on their DPS (especially after the coffer change), which is the most important part. If you aren't a week 1 clearer the whole group would be at 645 ish when they clear usually lol.
Regardless, modern heal checks are very lame now. The last fun heal check was O8S Forsaken 1/3.

I think of optimization as trying to get the best score with the current systems and setups you've got, meanwhile the "parse brainrot" or whatever folks choose to call it blames lost dps on others, be it party members or the game itself.
The former's more of a personal challenge (fun!) while the latter tends to call for changes made to the game to reduce their dps loss, often removing optimization steps (not fun!). We've gotten to the point where we're debating even the most minute deviations from the optimal striking dummy rotation.

should've ended that thread but alas.
I also just love how Viper was gutted just days into DT because of a few forum posts with 3 or 4 likes even though there are thousands more likes going to people disagreeing with them.
