    This is basically what Guild Wars 2 already does.

    The issue with FFXIV, as BigCheez mentioned, is that there is no open world content other than FATEs to sync to (FFXIV's open world is only for MSQ and provides no real functionality outside of that), whereas Guild Wars 2 allows you to keep all of your buttons when downsyncing, which FFXIV does not for some stupid reason.
