This quality of a system is like putting an expensive mobile outdoor with "do not steal"-sign next to it. Hey, it might work if it's done somewhere in certain country... but they can't possibly think people worldwide would abide this religiously.

Most of the people using this tool would be stopped at the requirement of installing and running wireshark, much less having to read the output. It also wouldn't conveniently compile everyone's data into a centralized database for use by even the most tech illiterate.
People seem to be so afraid of not having the perfect solution with 0 workaround that they reject the easy solution in front of their face.

The fact this game has such rampant cheating and people actually threaten to leave the game for good if they can no longer cheat or use 3rd party tools to harass others is definitely eye opening though.

they need to handle account IDs server side, or encrypt them. that's it. that's the easy solution. anti cheat will not stop this. sure it could stop other things, but not this particular issue. this is straight up incompetent dev work.

To be honest I think SEs stance on third party stuff since day 1 is a big part of this problem..

Over a decade of turning a blind eye letting players get away with more and more blatent stuff.

If they actually enforced the rules from day 1. I do wonder how many of these mods and things would even exist today.

More players see players getting away with blatant rule breaking. The more they think stuff it and do it themselves... there's been 12+ years of zero repercussions. There's literally zero reason not to use them at this point.

So now you're requiring people to know how to get, install wireshark, and now modify wireshark with plugins and export and extract that data.
You act like requiring a massive amount more tech literacy is the same as a github repo where you plug it into the dalamud launcher and it installs and works instantly.

You guys are so concerned with a perfect solution with no security holes you're ignoring any mitigation or path forward that reduces the spread and efficacy of the plugin.

the plugin is already spread. the data is already out there, collated at that. people don't even need to sniff packets, just find the right person and ask nicely or pay for the information.

At this point in this thread, "third party tool" is just a scapegoat diverting players from seeing how $h!tty their DT Blacklist system.

I fully support the use of anticheat and it is long overdue. Anticheat will bring legitimacy back to raiding in this game. If it means the boys can't clear ultimates or savage anymore without their 32 addons helping them then so be it. Square Enix will see a decline in clear rates and adjust encounter difficulty moving forward, and this includes DPS checks.

The problem we have in the game, and this reached its Zenith in TOP, is that square enix calibrates content based upon community clear rates and feedback. If complicated mechanics can be trivialized by third party tools, then Square Enix incorrectly draws the conclusion that those mechanics are easy for the community, so they put in more. Why do you think so many fights have included mechanics that are trivialized by automarkers? SE thinks we're great at marking and sorting people! Except, we're not, at all. We're carried by people who have ACT pluggins.

Anticheat is by far the best thing for this game, and if it causes people to quit because they can't use their lalafell mods or clear base raids then cya, this was in the TOS from the start.
