Six and a half month wait period, just for 4 role quests...

We're really defending this sort of patch now? The Copium must be on the extra pure side to keep up with the crippling addiction the Square Enixes white knights have afflicted themselves with.
I honestly wouldn't care about the time between patches. IF THEY CAME WITH QUALITY CONTENT. Everything we have been shipped in Dawntrail is Absolute garbage. You know what? I'd be more willing to let this bullshit slide if they at least COMMUNICATED WITH US A LITTLE BIT. How about "Hey we're sorry Dawntrail hasn't lived up to expectations here's what we're going to do moving forward." Instead we get radio silence, and they don't even put the effort into making sure a MICRO PATCH is ready for release. Where is the quality control? Has Square Enix just completely given up? Billions of dollars and all they can do is make weak little excuses about Technical limitations and Spahghetti code in the rare instances they do respond to us. Absolutely pathetic.
I would rather they just abandon Dawntrail as quick as possible. Wrap up the story as much as they can in either 7.2, or 7.3 and immediately start getting their team together for a MAJOR overhaul for 8.0.
IT IS a problemLately, I've seen a lot of people claiming that the 4.5 month between patches is was the reason it feels so barren and we should go back to shorter patches. I've seen that argument repeated so much, but truthfully, this argument is sooo bad. This a perfect exemple of the community being very bad with analysing the problems.
4.5 month scheldule is not a problem. At worst, it's an aggravating factor to the real problem, the lack of content with shelf life. Give us content supposed to last for 4.5 month in your 4.5 month patch, and there won't be any problems.
Heck they could go to 3 month patches, if the patches content is the same as the 7.1 content, we'd still have the exact same problems. I mean, 7.1 was released 2 month ago, and look how happy we are. We'd feel so much better if this was 3.5 month scheldule.
No wonder SE does bad choice with the entire community seem to singlemindedly focus on a non problem instead of the actual problems.
[edit]
Ok, for some reasons it seems it need to be precised : this in a post saying everything SE does is good and shift the blame on players : this is a post about players pointing at the wrong problems.
Saying that the problem is the "4.5 month scheldule is the problem" imply getting shorter patches will fix the problem : it won't. Yet that argument is everywhere when it comes to talking about XIV problems.
I feel like a dumbass repeating myself, but with the several answers that imply I said there was no problems with the game and that the content we have is fine, it seems it's needed. Do some of you only read the title?
And the QA and few amount of content are even worse
This is my line of thought on the matter. So no need for me to say anymore.Inherently, it isn't a problem if the patch cycle can lead to a higher quality product, or generally a more consistent product in quality, or higher amount of content / reason to engage with the game.
But at this point they have none of the perks of a prolonged patch cycle, and all of the downsides of it, so I can see why people do see that as a problem in and of itself.
I pay 155,88 Subscription per Year + 109,20 Retainers per Year + 49,99 Dawntrail = 315,07 Euro for 1 Year but each Expansion is always 2+ Years so it would costs me 265,08 for the second year of this Expansion. Overall it will be 580,15 Euro till the next Expansion. + 1-5 Months extra. SE needs to find a way to make a Bank or whatever, the cost for Retainers is to high. And while they at it, they should remove the FC Workshop from Houses and place it by the Grand Companies. FC's should not start Airships / Submarines by 0 again if they loose their House and none can loose a Grand Companie Workshop. This will clear many House Spots. Players have so many ideas but we get ignored.
Someone call the Forum Police! Because I wrote passive aggressively that DT looks not good. Oh how right I was!
I personally have no issue with the patch cycles. I hit the content when it comes out. Then do some weekly stuff that I feel is necessary. Then I play another game. Sometimes I unsub between (for less than 45 days). Honestly, I find it mentally healthy to do something else besides this game. And while I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but we can't have the expectation that there will be no content every time we login to this game. Unless you want random content procedurally generated. I hear the quality of that is high.
Didn’t they increase the patch cycle by half a month because of Covid ? Then why in the hell is it still stuck in Covid times when that one is more or less over . Also the content for a non raider is completely and utterly way too little. Imagine getting like 3 hours story and around 1-2 hours hildi and 1-2 hours for the role quest line plus a beast tribe were 3 daily’s take you around 10 minutes per day for only just 4,5 months…… so in short 65 bucks for around maybe 10 hours around ???? Plus the story for both the main plot and the role quests ending is just snot, like holy moly
I thought it's because they wanted a break ? Or something along the lines of "having an extra week will give us an extra bit of time to catch stray problems so that each patch has good quality checks on it".
In any case, less content over a longer period of time doesn't feel particularly great to me.
I sub when there is high end pve stuff (savages or ultimates, dont really care that much about extremes-criterions or the new chaotic raid)
since DT release i've been unsubbed for 4 months (been back since 2 weeks for FRU prog with my static), I will most likely take a 1 month break before M8s and then probably another 1-2 month break before 7.3, usually taking a 1 year break before every expansion (X).4 -> (X+1).0
It really amaze me how casuals (high end pve stuff is the more "time demanding" content) can stay sub for so long, if I would be a casual I will sub 1 month/expansion (3 weeks before an expansion to do all of the (X).1 -> (X).5 content and then do the (X+1).0 MSQ for the remaining week) otherwise the value provided by FF14 is way under the value provided for the same price by other solo/online games
-> take for example 7.1, for a casual there is MSQ (3h), 1 dungeon (20mn), 24 man raid (1h) + some other stuff, so 5hours of "fresh content", let's say 15hours with the weekly stuff until it gets boring
15h for 10€ x 4 + 40€/5 (expansion price divided by 5 patches) = 48€
48€ is Silent Hill 2 Remake / FF7 Rebirth / MH Wilds / 4 month gamepass

for me, the 4.5 months IS a problem. and i want them sooner, because the PPl provide a useful gauge on how things are going and developer > player interaction. if those pll were any longer appart i would feel like the devs were alien creatures and id loose touch with them. I want 3.5 months again because at least back then yoshiP was very involved in XIV and its community
