Regarding comments including English posted to the Japanese forums

Just a suggestion as one who posts in both the English and the Japanese forums.

I have noticed sometimes users who are not Japanese speakers posting things in the Japanese forums. This is great, more the merrier. However, in such cases, please don't include the English original in your posts -- moderators tend to be fairly strict with the "one language" rule and have closed threads that contain multiple languages.

Thanks to improved translation software, the translations tend to be fairly good... so please just post the translated Japanese text (or if you are good enough with Japanese you can try posting without machine translation).

I am sure people post both the Japanese and its original English to help with the understanding in case the machine translation is inaccurate, but the moderation team really hasn't been lenient at all. Just FYI.

Extra tip: since automatic translation tools don't know how to translate lore-specific names from English to Japanese accurately, you can go on the Final Fantasy fandom wiki to find the Japanese spelling of most names (just double check that it doesn't mess with the spelling after translation, I've had that issue a few times on DeepL).

They also do not like duplicate posts. That's the rule they often cite. However, the rule is not enforced in the English forums. Most likely users do not report it in the English forums, where moderation only seems to happen in response to reports.

I usually translate English to Japanese, then translate it back to English to see if it looks right. Usually gives a clearer idea of it'll make sense or not.

I get Japanese translations for lore from the lodestone database. Just change the URL from EU or NA to JP. Can also do this with the patch websites.

Very true, these can make communication very hard. Dungeon / trial names are totally different between the Japanese version and all other regions (I think...).
Also, some character names are different as well. Recently Alisaie caused some remarks when machine translation resulted in her name being spelled as アリゼ in one part of the post, and アゼ― in another. The correct one would have been アリゼ―.
That one is minor -- Krile is totally different in Japanese -- she is called クルル (Kururu) in Japanese.
Skill names also often don't translate well...

I am a Japanese speaker and post on both English and Japanese forums. When I read posts translated from English, I'm more concerned about the translation of in-game terms than the grammatical errors. I realized that some terms I thought were of English origin actually aren't.
    For example (here I use the alphabet instead of Japanese katakana);
    JP: Knight / EN: Paladin
JP: Contents Finder (/contentsfinder) / EN: Duty Finder (/dutyfinder)
JP: Beginner Channel (/beginner) / EN: Novice Network (/novice)

Some terms cannot be translated correctly without using in-game translation.
Translated from JP: Wheel of Fortune / EN: Collective Unconscious
Translated from JP: A stormy plan, Sturm und Drang Strategy / EN: Expedient

I use the following method to translate in-game terms (action names etc).
    1) Set the client language to Japanese and log in.
    2) Make a macro using auto-translate function and log out.
(/echo) (words or phrases I want to translate)
    3) Set the client language to English and log in.
    4) Run the macro and copy translated texts.

I also use Eorzea Database for translation.
