Pulling wall to wall has been the norm since ARR, and you'd always be called out for not doing so.

Maybe the people complaining about no conversations taking place in dungeons should, I dunno, speak up in dungeons? Be the change you want.

Also, nobody ever waits out the cutscene in Toto-Rak. That cutscene takes longer than the dungeon does. Blame Square Enix for that one, not the players who don't want wait while you listen to Lahabrea slowly monologue War and Peace.

I wouldn't say always called out, but frequently you'd get people run ahead and pull to the tank, randomly leave or demand it in party chat since ARR. Varies depending on the party you land in.

They do sometimes. Often it isn't that people don't wait, but that they either don't look at the party list and see "Viewing Cutscene" or they get sucked into the boss fight due to proximity. This has also frequently been an issue in Stone Vigil, where you pull the boss by accident due to proximity. I'm not sure if they fixed this in the revamps of those dungeons but I remember those being common reasons for it.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

If it bleeds, it leads. Content creators need their money, and unanimous criticism like "Dawntrail Tillana kinda sucks, can we please adjust it?" isn't as click-worthy as "WOKE LMAO LITERALLY KILLING FFXIV, YOSHI-P NEEDS TO BE FIRED NOW". or whatever slop shows up in my feed.

The flaws in the game have always been there. Players tolerated them because we loved the story or a specific character. Because Dawntrail's story was weaker, and the characters not as beloved, it ripped the band aid off and meant that the only people who are continuing to play are those with specific objectives in the game outside of the story (the fishers, the achievement hunters, the raiders, the RPers) and the casual players who just wanted to play for the sake of being with their blorbo are left with nothing to do.

Even if you did like Wuk Lamat or Koana, there's no active content involving them, let alone any of the Scions. Players are bitter about that.

The game being kinda ass does account into peoples moods and motivations yeah.

Dawntrail and partially Endwalker (loporrits for example) made the writing more juvenile. Smells like a suit corpo decision to capture a younger crowd.
Which is a dumb call when most of your game until then had been adult writing. Its like the new Dragon age butchering the mood of the old Dragon age.

When can we start making yacht memes about SE management like we did of Bobby Kotick in Blizzard?

A significant part of the FFXIV has always been hypocritical and passive aggressive. People being nice to each other sometimes feels like a façade, that disappears when it comes to difficult content.

The only part that is gueninely welcoming is the casual community, where people gueninely want to help and show good faith, because they were warmly welcomed themselves, whatever the reason why they were welcomed. SE achieve to build a community welcoming to newcomer by forcing it which is good : good action and behaviour tend to produce other good action and behaviour. But once you've been here for a while, you realise a good part of the community is just the same as in every other mmo.
Overall, the community is still very welcoming to new players, but the whole "FFXIV is a great community" has always been misleading .

A lot of the people praising the community are just people that want to show how they are better than others, while being fundamentally toxic. If the whole "great community" has lived for so long, it's because it's carried by those people AND the ones that barely engage in content where you can see the "darker side" of the community (and this part of the community is very big).

It's not that the community has changed, it's just you reached a point where you don't only see the good sides of the community. Heck, you probably don't see them at all anymore, because you barely need any help anymore, and began to mostly interact with the PF/roaster crowd.

That said, I'll take a partially hypocritical "good" community over the openly toxic community some other mmo have any day.

And you can't ignore the elephant is the room that is the poor choices made by the dev team concerning the content done during the last 3 years as one of the reason why people are more negative today.

Hypocritical is probably the most apt term to use honestly. But I wouldn't say it's a façade, just that some people put way too much focus onto some of the most inane things in the game, to the point where it's an attitude change.

I don't actually agree about the point of the casual community though, I think it's just as bad, the only difference being it comes with a different coat of paint, so how the behavior is exhibited differs from a casual as to what it might with someone who plays more hardcore. Just in the same vein I can find equal amounts of welcoming between casual and hardcore players. I don't think we need to try and make that distinction here because it definitely isn't unique to one segment of the player base.

The whole 'Great community' is a meme at this point, and honestly I have found that for the most part the people parading the term around are more oft than not the most toxic of everyone, but in many cases it doesn't matter because self awareness didn't even wake up. The amount of times I've had someone go "Great Community btw", to then in the very same moment just be completely toxic themselves.

It definitely hasn't changed. Community is much larger, older players are just generally more refined in what spheres of the game they interact with, in addition to how they consume the content.

Personally, I take direct toxicity over the passive aggressiveness that comes here. At least with that, for the most part people are just completely and utterly owning their own behavior and aren't trying to masquerade as being 'polite', 'friendly', or 'considerate'.

Dev choices are the biggest reason as to how the community has developed.
