Personally, I like having at least two recipe uses per item. Currently, Ramhorn Zucchini and Prickly Pineapple are two items that can only be used in one recipe. I've made up this recipe to resolve this:

Pineapple Zucchini Bread (4 per successful synth)
Sunset Wheat Flour x1
Prickly Pineapple x1
Ramhorn Zucchini x1
Maple Sugar x1
Chicken Egg x1
Buffalo Milk x1
Mineral Water x1

Example of some items with single cooking recipe use:
Lalafellin Lentil
Gridanian Chestnut
Blue Landtrap Leaf
Fish Stock
Pearl Chocolate
Aloe
Galago Mint

Substitutions would also be a nice thing to pull from FFXI, such as being able to use Coeurl Meat or Lynx Meat interchangeably for some recipes. Currently items like Aldgoat Chuck and Buffalo Sirloin could be used like that in some recipes, like Jerked Beef.
