I think it would make more sense to put it as an option to select at the start of the game rather than a ring you can put on/take off. Something like no rested exp and a flat -40% from quests. Maybe add in a "convert to slow mode" as an option for already made characters. I don't like the idea of someone going "Oh I don't like this anymore" and removing the burden whenever they want.
Why would that be a problem?
