my game crashes to black then pc rboot everytime i go past the title screen.

i just installed my new MSI Geforce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2x 12G OC GPU, correctly and it has the extra power cable plugged in, but now the game cant even get past the title screen, other games work fine, so why does FF14 cause my GPU to shutdown like with no picture on any screen then pc reboots itself.

    i tried clean reinstall driver.
    my bios are fully updated.
    i tried a file repair.
steam cant seem to check game files, auto says they are fine.

i still get the directx error crash randomly before this, and i was hoping a better GPU would fix it, but it only made it worse.

i also tried reinstalling the game before the GPU upgrade and i still got the directx error.

should i just fully format everything and start over?

Starting from a fresh Windows install is a bit extreme but would eliminate any possibility of it being a Windows or driver configuration issue. What stands out to me is "OC", combined with the behaviour, I'd suspect that FF14 does something that exposes an instability in the overclock. You might want to run GPU-Z and set it to log to a file while you attempt to load FF, that would give you more information.

As much as I don't want to re-suggest what I did last time with the previous card, I agree that OC is suspicious because overclocking can cause problems. Like before, it can be configured in Afterburner.

You could try searching in the Windows search box: event viewer

Open it, then click Windows Logs, then click System and look at the recent errors (especially any Red ones or any that happened at the Timestamp that it shut down). The errors don't make sense ever, so don't worry about that, but they can sometimes provide a hint such as mentioning the type of fault that shut it down, or an error code that you can google.

You could also look at Application in case it is an application issue, but it'll help to see if there is a system issue first.

Try disabling "Screen Space Ambient Occlusion" in the graphics settings. This had crashed my game in every ingame cut scene. Maybe it helps.

there isnt any errors in event viewer, would it still keep a record even after it reboots? the worse part about this is my pc is unusable after this happens until it self reboots.
i also reinstalled the game, and it still happens.

Yes, it often records component issues. It is able to record the events that lead to it shutting off prior to it shutting off, or the circumstances it encounters after it reboots and has to recover.

If there aren't any errors there, it might be pointing us to some other issue such as a software issue. Try going to Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn\ and deleting the ffxiv.cfg file (this is your game's system settings, so it'll reset any data it has on your GPU so it doesn't try to load it with incorrect info).

whats funny is i tried this before i saw your post and i thought it worked, like i deleted that folder in my games/FF14 and that the game actually works, but then it still crashes after a few mins in the world itself,
something thats weird is, when i play on my second screen the game crashes, both screen turn black for 2 mins then PC self reboots, if i disable my second screen and only play on my main screen, it still crashes to a full black screen even if the game is in window mode but gives a directx error 11000002 then im back to normal, which is the same error i had on and off randomly since DT started, so i already had a Directx crash but now it happens every time.

i can say your advice does stop it from crashing after the title screen, so you are right, ff14.cfg does need to be deleted, but then my game still crashes in the world after a few mins.

i would try this but i have no idea where this option is, is it in the system settings for graphics? is it in Nivida control panel? or Nivida.exe?

Open ffxiv.cfg with Notepad and find:
    OcclusionCulling_DX11
    Change it to 0.

Speaking of which, I hope it is all configured to DX11 since my understand is that is required now.
