    Pirate Job suggestion

A Pirate based Job is something I've been longing to see for years, but I don't know if I ever made a thread suggesting it like when I suggested stuff like a gunblade Job and Chemist so long ago. (We now have Gunbreaker and Sage and I'm EXTREMELY happy with how they work! Gunbreaker is far better than my old suggestion, for one. Thank you devs!)

I know some people argue we have a pirate Job due to marauder and rogue, but I don't think those count because they don't stay pirate themed in the Job. (Warrior and Ninja.) So right now we still don't have a pirate themed Job.

Based on revisiting my old suggestion idea from years ago, my concept is a physical melee/ranged hybrid damage role Job.

To differentiate it from other Jobs' weapons and to cover a very strong theme for pirates in popular culture, I've been longing for it to use the swashbuckling sword-and-gun combo, like a boss in Sastasha (Hard). (I've been hoping to get that weapon style for Pirate themed stuff ever since that came out.)

For the lore and abilities, I've been really wanting to see it draw on the power of pirate ghosts. Would it work if it had abilities that use things like ghostfire?
And since Jobs seem to have been getting thematic unique limit breaks, this Job could summon a ghost ship to fire a cannonade at a target area. I'd love to see that! (And it might also fit using elements of FF5 Remake's Cannoneer Job.)

I'd also love to see what ideas other people have for how a Job like this could work.

    ---

The main issue is defining what a pirate is.

"A pirate is someone who attacks and steals or smuggles cargo from other ships at sea."

Looking at my own DND character for example, he'd be a type of Necromancer - not really, but that's the quickest way to explain it.

The WOL can't be a criminal.

Being a pirate it makes little difference what weapon you use or whether you are capable of using magic.

Every FFXIV job (healer, tank, and dps) can be a pirate and that's generally how it goes in other RPGs.

The second problem is that in-universe, Merlwyb outlawed piracy many years ago, and FFXIV does not enable you to own a boat or engage in sea combat/trading/smuggling.

You can totally do pirate glamor (I have several), but the WOL cannot be a criminal or a villain and they cannot steer a ship at sea in FFXIV.

I didn't mean to get people hung up on specifically the term and legal status of "pirate". It can go by other names as popularly discussed. This was just to get the rough concept across, but I probably should have accounted for other names, even if I was going with the name people would know the best out of popular culture and forgot Corsair. Pardon for that. >_<

If the issue is defining it, what I was going off of is based on the popular fantasy of what a pirate is, not specifically "sea criminal". A swashbuckling rapscallion who sails the high seas (or is *associated* with a ship crew) and sometimes uses supernatural powers. Besides, the legality issue could be moot to an extent if they go with the idea popularly discussed on the forums and in-game over the years of it being called something like Corsair, Privateer, or FF5's Cannoneer, like you said. A privateer is a pirate, but a legally sanctioned one, so not a criminal in the nation/alliance they're affiliated with; which is how Limsa Lominsa currently operates as far as I know. They outlawed piracy but still use privateering, with old pirate crews operating now as legal crews and some want to go back to the old ways.

And true, you can't steer a ship at sea in FFXIV, but I still included an element tying into it with my suggestion with having the L3 Limit Break being that you summon a ghost ship to fire on your enemies, if the Job uses supernatural elements from popular ideas of pirates. Additionally one of the bosses of Sastasha (Hard) which gave me the initial desire for a Job like this and what weapon type it'd have, you never fight them on a ship at sea, you fight them on some form of land despite being a pirate.

Personally I would be MORE than okay with them making it Corsair (like others and I thought Viper would be from the trailer for Dawntrail), if not another name like Privateer, Cannoneer, or something entirely new. I think I picked a bad term to open with.

Edit: I forgot about Rogue. Where does that fall then if the class and its lore/guild in the game are criminals and also operating out of Limsa?
