If it's really powerful that alone means it shouldn't just be handed to you lol, btw, you say random chance is lazy -- isn't just...giving you powerful items for nothing laziness too?. I'd draw this but I already submitted my design ><

I didn't know "Difficult fight or quest" meant "Giving it for nothing" ?

Hate to agree with him but he did say right there in the post you quoted that he'd prefer it as a reward for a difficult fight or quest.

Personally, I'd again have to agree with him. I'd prefer guaranteed progress or at least good rates on something that's difficult as opposed to something easy with shitty drop rates.

Not only RNG is a lazy mechanic but it is also very frustrating when you consider that the game doesn't reward any skill.

What's the point of learning how to play your job, paying millions and millions of gil to get the best build for your character... to be brutally slapped in the face by a dice roll ?

The sad part ? Every MMO I've played work that way. We're not players, we're cash cows...we don't play, we just pay

It means it will be done quickly. Or at least more so than a random or point system.

I don't think so. It will take severals tries to figure out how to beat the mob or fulfillng the quest.

If I may, I'll do a little comparison (A bit off-topic, but I think it can be relevant).
The last real challenge I beat (In an offline game) was the last bonus boss of Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. It was difficult, testing every skill you acquired while playing the game, and I really spent days to beat him.

I screamed as I finally managed to beat him and cherish the reward like a proof of my skills (Even though I don't use it in-game)

They could have done like FFXIV and make the fight less difficult but the reward random.
I'd probably get bored of beating the boss over and over with no dropped, and when it dropped, I'd probably be "Not too soon" /sigh
