Considering the FFXI servers are still somehow up, I think XIV will still be around in 10 years.
It would not surpirse me if it gets put on a slow maintenance mode in the next expansion or two if things don't turn around.

Given how they’re constantly extending the time between patches/expansions I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve just hit 8.2 in 10 years time
If I can no longer see my juicy garlean prince in that one dungeon or unending journey, I'm going to cry so much a calamity will strike SE HQ as a flood of tears.
Jokes aside, I don't want to think about it....I think the formula won't change. People expect the game will do a 180, I doubt it.
You'll see trusts in more content, trails/alli raids etc.
Limsa is already kinda depressing...Everyone logged in but AFK, no one talks...could be EU thing.
We can look at OCE tho, maybe a tight knit community might form if the population really declines, question is would they even be enough to sustain it?
Will Yoshi P still be around? If not, I'm slightly concerned. I personally think Yoshi P is a lesser evil kinda..
I doubt viera/hroth hats will ever be a high priority...it's sad but I have low expectations of it. If they truly cared, F-hrothgar wouldn't have released the way it did. Not only no hats, but hairs tied/locked to faces. The graphical 'upgrade' shows that they're willing to throw everyone under the bus to make it 'easier' for them, we've all been kinda hyurified.

Probably in terms of final fantasy xiv future we'll see and get the graphics updates finished up by 8.5 alongside scraps of msq content and standard formula -
then maintenance mode if square has their profits from FFXIV dip too low due to population leaving slowly thanks to declining story quality in msq and content quality - and unlike ffxi which due to it being old means cheaper cost to run FFXIV would probably get it's servers shut down
Stop releasing content, rename FFXIV into Final Mare Lamentorum and release it.
They are already swimming in money without any kind of effort.
In the same place you'll find FF11. No they will not update the engine, no they will not give Hroth and Viera hats, no the PC version won't have close to the QoL that the mobile version will have, no they will not go back to their ShB & EW numbers. They are content to drop back down to a humbly sized player-base because it is easier and more convenient to manage, and it's clear that their philosophy has changed into "You will take what we give you and you will like it." The game will look surprisingly similar to the way it does today, both in design and in content. Make your peace with it now so you're not disappointed later.
FFXIV was a well received MMO but not really genre defining in any way. It isn't going to die but the community is going to keep shrinking down to a dedicated collection of players. After that content will probably cater to the folks that are left which hopefully isn't going to be hardcore raiders. Typically smaller communities are friendlier than the big ones. I've played the game for 10 years, spent the last 5 years doing savage, and probably am going to phase it out of my life soonish as it really has become too repetitive. This game has a lot of shackles in it like being in an FC, having a house on a server, certain retainer things, etc, that make it hard to just swap to a different DC, and socially the problems of the real world capitalist universe impact the behavior of the people in the higher tiers of play and the cross server play seems to have become a double edged sword with the limits on DC travel. It's not as bad as what WoW had or maybe still has back when grind was needed and catchup was impossible, but it is there.
I think there is little incentive to put more resources than what has been placed in FFXIV with a dwindling population going forward, and we'll see slower content updates in the next few expansions.
Our best friend Zenos will have come back from the edge of existence to give us a truly satisfying fight to make up for all bad stuff. We will also have to travel to the Lifa tree and undo the genocide we did.
