8.0 rework will be a joke

If they want to bring back identity (with balanced jobs) they need to make 15-20 "new jobs" (considering they already have an idea (data + 2.0 - 3.0 jobs)), also I think the game netcode/current pve structure (2mn meta for instance) is a problem

Im 80% sure that the 8.0 rework will be underwhelming, I hope im wrong but I dont have any faith in SE

what do you guys think ?

If it were just a rework, I'd say expect it to be better and more unique but to also temper expectations, since they will still want to make it relatively intuitive to new players and casual players and so forth.

But it's not just a job rework. It's very likely going to be a post-level 100 progression system - the nature of which is unclear, but they mentioned by name the ideas: Still Trees, Talents and Ability Points. Those things could have a significant impact on the job rework and make it better by allowing them to give you simple options and sophisticated options for gameplay.

I'll wait to see what they do before passing any judgment, but they'll have to do something pretty serious to keep my sub. This game has good encounter design but has always had very uninteresting combat, so they've got a big job to do. Not to mention that the encounter design philosophy so far has more or less been "every job is equally viable because they all do the same stuff," so how do you give interesting identity to jobs without upsetting that?

Firstly they can do it the way they used to. Which is that every job achieves the same thing, but differently.

Secondly, if they implement a system with multiple Skill Trees, then it could allow you to choose a different tree depending on the content. This is effectively how Blue Mage works right now. You can choose different abilities depending on the raid and the strat.

I dream that the mobile version was just a gamble to get a working backend developed by another company to get rid of spaghetti/legacy code and modern update tools instead of Excel sheets, as well as ideas for the jobs direction...

There is just a slight problem with that idea, we don't even know if the mobile game runs on the same engine...I somewhat doubt it.
Which in return means that any improvements they may or may not make to the mobile version can not just easily translate into the proper game.

Yeah I think so too. It's probably different engine and more different things.

Part of me thinks that in the long run they didn't do themself a favour with the mobile version regarding player happines and feedback.
For everything better in mobile players will keep demanding similiar things in retail and be pretty vocal and angry about it (understandibly given some things have been asked for years just to be ignored).
They can't go and say "well no, just play the mobile version" because... man I can already imagine the backlash.

Fact is if they want 10 more years they have to find solutions to this because the questions and wants of the players WILL come and will be getting louder with the mobile version.

    @Topic
I wouldn't expect much from the rework honestly. Maybe a drop of the 2 min meta, a few abilities to give job fantasy (different names with different animations) or a better use of the job gauges.
If I had my way I would want some kind of supercharging ability on BLM in ice phase for another spell just to make ice phase more interesting and more desireable.

    Also Hottake here:
People already cry with PCT being good in downtime fights so they won't be able to handle other jobs having things that might make them better in certain fights (despite Ninja being a powerhouse in chaotic also).
Even if we will get something good it will fall victim to the ultimate balancing because there you have Xenos, Happy, Arthas and Co dictating how the devs will change jobs because apparently balance > job fantasy in this community and they are the ones who will be listened too.

Yes I am still salty for having to move on BLM in P1S just so a f**** machinist could have "uptime".

This would be a big improvement. Shame that it would require reaching max level and clearing 400 hours of MSQ first because speaking for myself I'd have loved having a choice between two or more presets or trees from the start.

IMO they should start adjusting jobs now so the workload isn't as big. Balance is already a mess so why not take that opportunity to start rebuilding.

I'd say blow it up, make big sweeping changes instead of tiptoeing around for 3 years and seeing if the players like the warmth of the water.

I'm still waiting for some new feature to be that "OOMPF" for FFXIV since Endwalker, you can tell things are dire on that front when "double dye" got the loudest cheers. And even that could be better and implemented into furniture too. (ITS A GOOD START along with the accessories)

Honestly, I don't think they have the guts for anything big. I bet they will be scrambling with graphical updates for quite some time.
