I can sure tell the population is really down and maybe lowest have ever seen it since 1.0. When using would world travel or datacenter travel most worlds novice network was completely full and couldn't join. Now no matter which world go to I can always join it now.

Truthfully we don’t have any official confirmation what the ‘new projected they’re working on yet, but I think ‘ff16-something’ game is a likely bet for what at least one of them will be. I mean, it lets them reuse assets over developing new ones; I don’t think CBU3 is big enough for even a company as dumb as SE to expect 2 entirely IP’s and running a ‘top tier’ MMO lol. I imagine the other one will turn out to be ‘ffxiv mobile’ or something else ridiculous - even though it’s not technically CBU3 developing it (I think lol).

It’s my (educated) tinfoil hat theory lol. But we do know they’re doing something lol

When are they planning to release patch 7.2? March? I doubt it, probably late March or even April, so basically another four months of nothing. The player base might drop even more. The only thing that’s keeping me in the game right now is my friends. After DT, I just couldn’t care less about the story.

Right now for me what's saving XIV is never having done any relics aside from the first few steps in ARR.

I ran through HW's really quickly since it's mostly just farming like 16K Poetics at this point, and some dungeons you can solo.

Currently doing Eureka from StB, which is actually really fun to me. After I get a few weapons I'll move on to ShB's.

These relic journeys blow EW's "Poetics" weapon out of the water when it comes to a more memorable journey. I have no attachment to my EW relics at all since they are basic tomestone weapons - I actually threw most of them away now that they are outdated.

I think doing old content will entertain me for a while but I really feel for those who already did this content at release and have nothing at all to work on right now.

Umm...hate to break it to you, but the current population even in its "trough" is still several times over what it was in the ARR-SB days.

Looking back at 2024, do you feel like we got 12x13$ + 40$ for DT expansion price worth of content?

Depends on how much you do and how quickly you do it. For me? I always had plenty to do the entire year, and certainly felt I got my money's worth. Of course, I go at a rather slow pace. Then again, if I completed things quickly and truly had nothing to do...why would I stay subbed? The game only costs the price you listed if you subbed the entire year.

Take something like Netflix...when I've got a backlog of things to watch, I definitely feel I get my money's worth. If I finish my list and nothing new catches my eye...I just stop my subscription for a bit and come back when something new gets released that I want to see. You can do the same thing with a sub-based MMO like FFXIV. If you play through everything quickly, you really only need a 1-month sub, maybe 2 months at the most. At that price, the 60+ hours of new content in DT's initial release alone seems very much worth it. It's only if you continue paying month after month with nothing to do that it seems pointless...which is no different than maintaining a Netflix/Hulu/Max/etc. sub without watching anything.

As much as I want to think that "Oh this will get SE's attention!", mainly I expect nothing to come out of this. SE wouldn't care about this article and continue with their planned course for DT, even if the playerbase declines somewhat.
