    Suggestion for targeting party members on controller

    As a controller player, it's often difficult to target party members quickly while maintaining a solid rotation in high end content. This is especially the case when trying to target a specific player from the center of the party list, as opposed to just the topmost or bottommost two. Using the UP and DOWN directional buttons for this is a pain.

    Instead, can we have the option of changing the L1 button to help with player targeting by combining it with the directional buttons. (I'll use the PS5 controller throughout the suggestion.)

    Holding L1 and tapping a directional button would soft target a specific party member, whereas double tapping would select a different party member. Which party member you specifically target would relate to their order in the party list but could be configurable (eg. to map neatly with assigned clock positions).

    Direction = Single tap / double tap
    Up = tank 1 / dps 1
    Down = tank 2 / dps 2
    Left = healer 1 / dps 3
    Right = healer 2 / dps 4

    In cases where the player is configured to always be at the top of their party list, they would always be tank 1, healer 1 or dps 1. Whether a single tap = supports or dps could be configurable for each players' preference.

    L1 currently defaults to 'auto-run' which is not terribly useful in high end content, making it a bit of dead space on the controller. Still, I like having the option to easy auto-run in the overworld, so perhaps we could have a configurable toggle for L1 to be auto-run outside of duties and party selection inside of duties.

    Thanks for taking the time to read this. Have a great day!

    Doesn’t L1+Directional buttons already function to cycle through targetting enemies on the enmity list though? Like if there’s two enemies L1+Up targets the bottom and Down targets the first? It’s how I make sure I’ve dotted everything on Bard/Scholar (it’s a dps loss but I have a compulsion don’t judge me lol)

    That's true, it does. Personally I seldom leverage it unless I need to stun or interject a specific enemy in a pack. My go-to is tab targeting since it doesn't interrupt my rotation.

    That said, as a healer I need to target specific players far more often than I need to traverse the emnity list as any class. But for players who prefer to still be able to traverse the emnity list, they can leave the settings to their current defaults.

    I mean, cycling through the enmity list shouldn’t interrupt a rotation on any job, and that’s coming as someone who generally does it as a Bard and still hits every proc/oGCD. Just needs to be done within the gcd.

    And yeah, I think it was something in the targetting settings that enabled it so I don’t remember if it works by default. But they could always just have an option in the settings for whether the button combo cycles through party list or enmity list.

    It would be nice to be able to easily soft target party members. I prefer single tap + action buttons (assigned to target filtering) to double tap + directional buttons. I'm currently using macros to hard target a party member and re-target the last enemy after a wait.
    /target <2>
    /crosshotbar share 8 off <wait>
    /crosshotbar share 8 on
    /targetlastenemy

    Although I don't play high-end content, this waiting time is annoying. I would also like text commands for soft targeting party members.
