I made a slight mistake. What I read was not in the patch notes but a projection of fixes they intended to implement. But they did say that they planned to fix this issue in 7.1. It's still disappointing![]()

It sais "wherever possible".
Perhaps it wasn't possible and therefor not changed?

As someone who's decently knowledgeable about 3D graphics now, the only thing that would make this "not possible" to fix is a skill issue. Normal maps allow for incredibly fine control over how light and shadows fall over features and change their shape impression, and the ffxiv face rig is highly adaptable and shouldn't have trouble with something like a slight height adjustment to the corners of the mouth. The more likely answer is that this either falls under things that need additional time, or they just don't care.
Also, no the update is not a massive improvement, it just has more advanced lighting. The facial features look off, and there is literally zero reason that this or any face can't look identical but with nicer lighting and higher resolution textures. Again, the only limit is development time and artist skill, both of which is lacking among cbu3.
