What is keeping the Makai gears from being genderunlocked?

Do we have any hints/clue on if the Makai gear will be gender unlocked or if it won't, what is keeping it from being genderunlocked?

aren't they already? The Makai Knight armors can already be worn by female. Or was there some kind of gender lock on the makai priest/alchemist gear for job that didn't have a Makai Knight armor (understand : wolf-shaped armor. In garo wolf shaped armor can only be worn by males)?

All of the pieces that do not belong to tank/dragoon/scouting are gender locked.

Development resources. Since they are currently not unlocked, someone needs to invest time to change that. If the models don't exist for a racer / gender / equipment combination (equipping armor changes a characters model), they must first be created. Even if everything is already made, someone still needs to program it all in.
Whether any resources will be allocated for it, no one can say, no official statement has been made. Usually, when demand is high enough, it gets done (don't get your hopes up for "any time soon" though, see the Hilda hair). There were also a few batches where previously locked gear was made unlocked. If the Makai gear is in development, only the developers know, and they haven't said anything.

It's probably because Garo as a series is very obsessed with only letting men be Makai Knights. I wouldn't be surprised if it's part of the terms of the crossover that the gear has to be genderlocked (but I would be pleased to be proven wrong).

There could be licensing issues around it that the "native" FFXIV gear doesn't have, or there might be nothing stopping it at all, and it just hasn't gotten its turn yet.

For all we can know, it could be ready to go in 7.2.

It's likely a licensing issue. SE doesn't own Garo, and probably isn't allowed to change anything related to that event or those items, even if they wanted to.

I was just heartbroken because I wanted to get the Makai aiming headpiece for my male viera (the butterfly!!) only to discover that it's not equip-able by male character models.

One of his themes for his character is gold butterflies, and there's astonishingly little dyable butterfly gear in the game. Even the butterfly weapon effects are fixed to their effect colors. (Yes I did buy him the mechanical lotus mount for the gold butterfly.)

Please un-genderlock the Makai gear! All the cool makai gear is fem-locked if we're being real. The male stuff is rather drab in comparison.

I have a friend who really wants to get the Makai flower headpiece for his male character, too, and is really sad that it's locked.

I'm hoping they unlock it when they go do the graphics update on it.

Also, please add more butterfly-themed gear that's dyable!
