I feel the same about ff14 with how it changed overtime.Definitely agree. I feel like FFXI done a perfect job of creating an MMO that still felt faithful to the ‘traditional’ FF style. The result was weird to say the least, but I feel like that uniqueness was part of what made it so charming.
I feel like XIV has lost a lot of what made it ‘charming’ in favour of being more ‘visually appealing’. Like, it’s more about creating some bizarre kind of ‘cinematic mmo experience’ that’s entirely centered around aesthetics and graphical presentation, and not ‘making an FF game but it’s MMO form’ lol.
That is when the true Vana'diel of legend will be reborn.
I might have started a whole FFXI conversation. xD
Thanks for the tips and opinions all.
I think I might start looking into it in the near future.
Currently the endgame raiders are eating well. Savage tier, FRU, and then this Chaotic? More Savages of course coming later, exploration zone I can only assume will have a DRS or BA level difficulty raid attached to it too. Arguably, more in danger of losing the people who don't make raiding their life, not counting rpers overall.Game is losing popularity across all platforms as is, if they dont change anything I don't think there will be much of the playerbase left after 8.0 else than the hardcore fanboys, the erp-ers. Raiders and Grinders get that adrenaline somewhere else, Savage is dead with the current meta/system weeks after launch, Chaotic is already kinda dead.
It's getting increasingly harder for them to mix and match the 8 PvE mechanics this game has to create ''new'' encounters.
Honestly, you could make the argument that there's really only one: "go stand there." And -- I'll give credit where credit is due -- they've made a LOT of cool fights happen with "go stand there." It's only now, after all these years, finally starting to wear a little thin for me. Every new mechanic is something like, "okay, green diagonal line means stand in blue horizontal space," or "odd number of red circles means rotate counter clockwise three pie slices," or whatever. I'm just kind of tired of memorizing totally arbitrary tells that all boil down to "go stand there."
Mao thinkings so much can be boiled down to "SE does bare minimums to get by".
Everyones want house? Put out a few more districts once in blue moon.
Want to customize look of house? Give PARTIAL option for uncluttered interior buts no give such option for apartsments.
Want more dye channels for gears? Add second dye channel buts not for most gears and make second channel apply to some tiny thing on gear.
Want beefier glam system? Add little bits here and there without actually fixing system.
Want more storage space? Is no need revamp storage system. Just pay for more retainers!
Want more outdoor adventures? Here's more same old same old hunts trains and fates.
Want better MSQs? Here's more fetch quests.
Want more interestings dungeons? Here's few more cookies-cutter dungeons.
Want more jobs? Here's couple more jobs, one of which is showing problems with old jobs, buts no worry! Jobs gonna be looked ats....YEARS FROM NOW.
And all while peoples gettings fed few more crumbs, SE keeps on grabbing thems moneys. Mao thinkings the players deserve more than this.

unsubbing from netflex doesnt directly effect the other netflix users. but unsubbing from 14 WILL effect other 14 players who are tryna pop duties. the game isnt netflex even tho msq did its best to feel this way. you are an essential cog in the games functioning wheelYou brought up Netflix. Here is how I use Netflix.
I do not care about 99.9999999999999% of the stuff on Netflix. When I first got it, it was just stuff I'd seen repeated on television for years. Old comedies, films everyone has seen by now, etc. Now it's original content I also don't care for usually.
If they do add a single program I want to watch, I subscribe for 1 month, watch it, then unsub.
Often programs on streaming services are released 1 per week to keep you subscribed for multiple months. But you can obviously work around that by waiting for it all to be released, then subscribing for 1 month and binge watching it.
So you see, you can do exactly the same with this and don't need to stay perpetually subscribed here either. Up to you, really.
You seem to be implying you should get handouts of the best gear as a reward for... not playing? Crafted gear is just fine if you're playing that infrequently.
Let us hope they understand this issue before it's too late for them. Aion, TERA and Archeage faced the same issue -- they fed the hardcore players, leaving casual/midcore ones with breadcrumbs until 2 of these games shut down.Currently the endgame raiders are eating well. Savage tier, FRU, and then this Chaotic? More Savages of course coming later, exploration zone I can only assume will have a DRS or BA level difficulty raid attached to it too. Arguably, more in danger of losing the people who don't make raiding their life, not counting rpers overall.
The problem is, making "hardcore content" is very cheap for them. Just take some MSQ content, tune the numbers and you are done. It takes maybe two days to do that. This is the reason why the game will never run out of "hardcore content".
Cheers
They should do that, but they don't. They should get dungeons and just tune them up and remove telegraphs. That would give us over 100 "hard" dungeons with hardly any effort on their part. They could also make a daily roulette that gives us a random old savage or extreme trial, sync it to MINE and drop Faux Hollows, but they don't.
The high-end fights they currently make are absolutely way more work than you're suggesting, and often they are made together with the normal version. It's 10 minutes of mechanics to weave together like a dance or a play (which sometimes have unique animations or music from the normal version) and they have to test it a lot to make sure it's possible to do and see if it will be too hard or not. Yoshi-P also playtests it to decide if he likes it.
I remember reading one time, someone spent ages designing the Omega Savage fight but a phase was too long, drawn out and boring. They said they were told by Yoshi-P to remake it and make one of the phases much shorter, and they said it was better because of that.
They also leave content like this to be tested for absolutely months as hundreds of bugs are addressed. The few that remain (that they are aware of) are usually mentioned in "Known Issues" at the bottom of the patch notes.
Maybe it is cheap in the sense of requiring one (or a few people) to use their mechanics design editor? And their wage is a drop in the ocean of their employee count. But 2 days is certainly going to be a gross exaggeration and there are other factors going into it like animations, music, new mechanic symbols, testing and rewards.
If the fights weren't based on MSQ bosses, then the fights wouldn't be story-driven. If it was an exclusive story for high-end raiders, we would have a coil situation (where people who don't raid feel excluded from the story), which caused them to make a normal/savage split in the first place.
