A lot of people have been praising the new chaotic as being a lot of fun. Given the reactions, this might be the most acclaimed piece of content besides the raid tier. Kudos to Square Enix for giving people what they want.

Also, it’s not about whether content is successful, it’s about winning. As in, your side (hardcore raiders) winning over the casuals who don’t post here. The game could die but you are still winning because you just gotta “get gud” and “stop whining”. FFXI, Guild Wars 1 and classic WoW are still played among the hardcore crowd. They won. There are plenty of games for us regular folk, like retail WoW or “hitting the bar” (MMOs are dead). FFXIV isn’t for us and that’s fine. “Get gud or get out”, as they say.

I'm unsure if they're trying for extreme sarcasm or serious. I'm no savage raider, never will be I simply don't have the memory for it, but I think the challenge provided so far is fair, unlike a certain hole in the 7.1 dungeon - The number of times I've fallen in there trying to heal or keep uptime is higher than the number of times I've failed to clear P1 of this raid.

Basically how I'm starting to feel now with DT

Longer patches. Less casual skilled content (Society dies off in 2 weeks, Custom Deliveries are 10 minutes per week and had to wait 2 more months). Which is normal with the x.1 patch BUT the longer delay patches just make it more exasperated.

Normal Raids were a relative joke because they buffed so many classes because they were scared to nerf Picto but kept the raid difficulty as is.

Waiting until 7.2 and new tomestone gear for the Alliance after watching Mr. Happy's guide and going "I'm not floor warming 50% of the Shadowlord fight and getting 1 shot/bleeding to death. I won't be a drag to a raid"

But yeah, if everybody else is liking the higher difficulty (and no, I don't watch a *bleep* other monitor while doing content, I try to focus on healing the others while dodging the more often mechanics now or doing my rotations if I DPS), it's time for slower folks to move on.

I don't think its in Square Enix's best interests to let 'slower folks move on' and frankly that's an awful mindset for an MMO. I don't want my casual friends leaving, I want them to have content to do too, I don't want FC's filled with just Raiders, I want an FC filled with all kinds of players.

It's kinda the corner they backed themselves into though.

They started to scale back the difficulty in DF tier content with ShB and EW. Slower folks finally got to enjoy something more than just MSQ.
Now Masaki Nakagawa wants to bring stuff back to HW/StB tier for story mode and us slower folk are going "Uhhh, now what?". He and YoshiP are locked on this pattern so /shrug.

Right now I'm keeping myself occupied levelling the rest of my DoW/DoM and crafters but once that's done? It's unsub time

Honestly speaking in terms of casual content, I don't actually think the current difficulty is far off what we saw in HW/SB. Much of HW was lent to having some terrible design decisions embedded, in combination with sheer lack of QoL. Stormblood I actually found is a little easier than current. Some may agree and some may disagree with this statement, but I think current casuals are better than what casuals back then were, both naturally and because of various QoL.

Now what they need to do is find what difficulty they want to aim for and then stick to that difficulty as when they constantly yoyo around on difficulties, that is when you get issues.

Difficulty isn't as much the problem, but giving casual players very little to actively do is. I see value in raiding, don't get me wrong, so I don't want to divert this into an us vs them, but if all they release is extreme+ content after extreme+ content then this is what will put a lot of players in the position of this game not being for them, not the innate difficulty of casual content. Raids are healthy but they don't have the same sustain and replay value as what relics/ exploratory does.

Tf are you on. The current casual content might as well play itself given how uninteractive, easy and devoid of substance it is. They should 100% bring some challenge back and even then it was easy, it already was for very casuals to begin with. The average level is already rock bottom, let's not keep dragging it down further.

Raiders aren't sticking around either. You get a savage tier that takes about a week to clear once per year and an ultimate that takes about a month to clear every 18 months.

The core audience for FFXIV is MSQ Andys. I think they've basically realised that they make more money by catering to a huge audience who buy an expansion and sub for 1 month than they do by catering to a smaller audience who pay their sub for the full 2-3 year cycle.

It's definitely worse for the game but I don't think SE care.
