Favored Bait Chart (My Ongoing Project)

This is a simple to understand color coded set of bait charts.

Green: Favored Bait Confirmed by Me/Vesper or Confirmed by Community with Screenshots.
Purple: Favored Bait Confirmed by word of mouth via community
Blue: Normal non favored Bite rate

I put in a large amount of time on each fish with each bait before I mark it with a color and move on. But with the way the system is you are not guaranteed to always get a "SOMETHING BIG HITS YOUR LINE/THE FISH SEEM TO BE BITING ON" message. I have gotten a message one night against a certain fish over and over. Then the same fish with the same bait I will not get that message for weeks. So as you can see there is room for error here.

I plan to overtime fish every fish with every bait myself, but even so there will be some doubt on the blue marked fish. I could really use other fishers help on this.



How You Can Help

If you find this chart useful please give me a hand and pay attention when fishing more.

1. Look for fish that I have marked blue and if you notice you in fact get a favored bite ("SOMETHING BIG HITS YOUR LINE/THE FISH SEEM TO BE BITING ON") Screenshot it.

2. Make sure that the Message saying which lure they are biting on is in the screenshot as well as the dialogue that shows you successfully caught it. This way I can update the chart with information I may have not been able to get myself.

3. Upload this image to this thread (I will be checking in every few days).

Also note that my current goal is to finish the Saltwater bait chart off first. The Freshwater one is coming in the future.

Feel free to upload screenshots to help me fill in information that is missing from either chart. I just ask that you provide a screenshot as outlined above and then I shall add it to the chart and give you a credit as one of the contributing fishers for the project.

Okay guys Version 1.8 is now up. I apologize for the delay, I was on vacation, ended up proposing to my GF of three years and everything has been a bit hectic. Updates will hopefully be more frequent. Anyways here are the update notes!

First of all thank you for this information! This is great and will help a lot! However, I have a few questions about the behavior of the favored bait phases which you may be able to answer since you've put in a lot of time observing this system.

1) Fishing with Goby Balls in Grade 3/4 waters near Limsa I'd periodically get the 'favored bait' message and (if I'm remembering correctly) I was getting that message for a variety of different fish that I'd pull in every during a 'Goby Ball favored bait phase.' This appears to be consistent with the data on your chart as well. However, my question is do the 'favored bait' phases always work like this? At a particular time, in a given zone/location/grade of water, if Goby Balls are the favored bait of the hour (or however long it is) do all the fish on your table that love Goby Balls start biting on them at the same time? Or is that something that triggers independently for each fish? Meaning it was just luck that multiple fish were biting on Goby Balls at the same time in the instance above.

2) Is there always a 'favored bait' that is active at any given time? Or is that something that appears to be occurring in random windows? Ex: White Coral only have two favored baits; Goby Balls and Rat Tails. So, if I fish up some White Coral while using Goby Balls and I don't get a favored bait message does that mean they will be jonesing for Rat Tails?

NP, I enjoy working on this chart, gives me something to do since beign rank 50 my goal is no longer SP oriented!

There is always a favored bait for each fish, with some exceptions.. Malm Kelp has no favored and it is my assumption that rare fish (Ocean Clouds and such) may not even have a favored bait. So in the case of White coral using either Goby Balls or Rat Tails is just going to make it easier to get them. Favored baits definitely do not alternate and there is no specific time for when they work.

I have no idea on the specifics of SE's system for how each fish is caught. My assumption is that each condition you mean gives you a % chance in your favor, so for instance.

• Properly Geared Out, Appropriate Rank and Stats % Increase to hit fish at the depth you aiming at
• Using the Favored Bait % chance to pull the specific fish that bite at that bait.

Also Note: Just because a bait is favored by a fish does not mean you will be getting that message often. For instance Crayfish favor choco flies, but personally I see that message once every 40-50 pulls of crayfish.

Any info on favored bait for Southern Pikes yet? ^^ Do you think it's just the same as the Northerns?

Not atm Moth, sorry. Currently I am trying to completely test all Saltwater fish first. But give the northern pike bait a shot, may work out. Also as stated before if you post info on what you find thats not on the chart I can fill it in with purple until I get to testing and confirming it myself.

And another thing. I have noticed in a few instances where I am not getting favored bites on some fish with some baits that others have said worked for them. In those instances I am just marking them blue for non favored... If ANYONE ever comes across a fish I have marked as non favored and you get a favored bite with that lure, please screenshot you chatbox showing the FISH IS BITING HARD and the fish caught. That way I can make the adjustments.

ok, so, just to clarify. The message I've been seeing states, "The fish seem to be biting on (x)." Is this the favored bait message? or is there another message that states they're biting hard on (x)? Which may signify that there are different different tiers of favored baits.
