Tales under the New Moon #8- The First of Many Festivals

Firstly, and not to disparage these short stories on grounds of quality (they're all fine, imo), but I'd like to thank the writers for actually making one I'd want to read. I'm rather sick of Ancients at this point—I'd honestly have rather had two stories about literally anyone and anywhere else than those first two. And while I'm not unfond of Zero, I'm not terribly interested in Durante and Zeromus and so on.

But a Lamaty'i and Erenville story? Very much appreciated. I also like that it ties directly into the MSQ's events—I can't help but wonder if this hunting festival being spoken of is something slated for 7.2, as it wasn't mentioned in 7.1's MSQ. Speaking of which, it gives a bit of context to why she was so keen on the hunting festival Lindblum was said to hold back in Living Memory. Turns out it's because she's experienced, and even participated, in similar events! It's also a rather nice reference to FFIX, which I've yet to play but am looking forward to.

It's also very nice to finally have a character acknowledge how Viera change as they mature. Before this, it was just a factoid tucked away in Encyclopedia Eorzea and Matsuno's twitter account. Erenville's reaction to Lamaty'i admitting she'd mistaken him for a girl is particularly fascinating, and seeing their friendship reinforced like this is very cute.

Oh, and man. I've said before that Galbana Lily would see Lamaty'i as like a younger version of herself. But the way she defended Erenville is literally the same Lily defended her older sibling from a Harpy when she was eight. She's so Lily-coded I think I might die of mirth.
